EGR removal issue

Hi all,
Tried to remove my EGR to give it a good clean as EGR code showing (engine management light on), have already cleaned MAP sensor.
The EGR is the one with the two small black hoses coming out of it (same as the one pictured), just a quick 2 questions in relation to the two black hoses

1. Are they both breather hoses or do they have coolant in them?
2. how they hell do you remove them (both are clamped onto the EGR) so you can put them back on once the unit is cleaned.
Had a look on here and you-tube but instructions seem to miss out this part, want to try cleaning it out before i buy a new one.

Thanks everyone
