Driving W/O a Passenger Seat

I am looking to replace the 'passenger awareness' sensor in the shotgun seat. The seat may be physically out of the car for a day or two. Will the car throw codes that requires me to go to the dealer / indy to reset with the seat being disconnected while I drive?

Yes you need to clear the passenger restraint code. Putting the seat back doesn't clear it.

There’s no need to go to a mechanic for this. This is something you can do yourself.

If you aren’t keen on installing software and buying a cable (least expensive route), invest in a scan tool. It’ll pay for itself the first time you use it.

Good luck!

The faulty sensor code goes away after time. It really only gets triggered once someone sits in the seat. I was more interested in if there was a more permanent fault that goes off if there is no seat detected at all.

I've seen the scan tools that are licensed per VIN, I may look at one of those if my OBD-II tool doesn't fix the situation when [if] time comes.

I have the same issue. Dont worry, you'll be fine. In true German fashion you'll have like 7 - 10 warning lights about the imminent danger your non existent passenger is in, but they'll go away when the issue is resolved. Have you thought about a seat mat bypass?

I think it is the disconnecting of the seat air bag and starting the car that sets a code that must be cleared. This is the free software I use. https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh....php?t=1023698

It's pretty straightforward if you have BMW standard tools installed on your laptop and have a decent DCAN cable

Use NCSExpert to code out the passenger seat occupancy sensor in the ABG module by setting OC3 to nicht_aktiv.

Remember to clear errors with INPA afterward.
