E90 LCI - both left tail lights malfunction
On my way home from the last track day, both left tail lights malfunctioned. Blinker, brake light, back up light work fine, it's just the running light that goes dark. After stopping and starting the car, the lights will work occasionally.
Since it's both lamps, I believe the fault must be somewhere else. Have anyone had the same issue? |

I've had a number of phantom issues with my tail lights. I just consider it one of those BMW features that help condition me to have panic attacks every time I hear that damn "gong" when a fault shows up on the dash.

Hi,
Are we talking about the LED tail lights (OEM)? One of mine is now randomly dropping out between normal indicating, and rapid indicating (where the back indicator light is not illuminated when it blinks fast). I've heard others have had broken LEDs, but is this a general problem with these? Also, should I buy the OEM lights again, or are the aftermarket replica LED tail lights any good? (less than 1/3rd price on ebay). By the way, has anyone tried repairing the LED circuit inside the tail lights? Looks like the lights are molded together, and would need to be cut open for access to the LED driver circuit. Cheers, |

I have the original LED tail light.
Tried knocking on the inner lamp yesterday (the one in the trunk lid). Both lamps then blinked and then stayed on for a while. I guess there is a problem with the inner lamp, and that for some reason both lamps will shut down of one fails. |

Yes (for info - breaks in the wiring harness are another common fault) Yes https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1623808
