Hey im having trans problems too. I have the 5088 code. Did your mechanic pull your code?
My sensor is telling my computer that my trans is in another gear so it doesn't let the car start.
I'm working on mines right now and will try to help as much as i can. 5088 sensor gearbox selector switch. Good luck with your car

That's ridiculous. This is the first time it's ever happened

Not sure the code but I told him just to leave it alone for now since this is the first time it's happened. If it happens again I'll be more interested in the issue.

Good luck to you as well

Hawaiian's 335 is probably a ZF transmission. OP's 325i might be GM?

I think the mechanic might be stuffing a junk yard transmission in there for $1200. Try a transmission specialist.

Okay but why are you asking us and not the mechanic what he wants to do and why he charges 1200$

I don't understand the post

You know how that goes... the tell you that some sort of special thing that 'magically' makes the car new again...

I'm leaving it alone, at least for now

Yeah I get your point. But maybe he would've told yeah he was gonna swap it out IDK.

I would be curious to know what he'd say tbh

He didn't say that he was going to swap the transmission

I don't remember exactly what it was as I eventually tuned out. Probably will be doing more research later on if it becomes more common

You can change out the transmission fluid and filter and see how that helps. Is yours a GM or ZF transmission?

Not sure... but to my knowledge the only e90 that has the gm is the 328i?

That would make mine zf

I plan to do the fluid and filter soon

I have a e91with 199k miles and it has gone into limp mode once or twice -- but it seems to be ok after pulling over and shutting off the car and restarting -- BMW quoted me a butt load to replace the transmission -- and another told me it was probably just a dirty sensor and to just keep a eye on it -- Honestly in my case its been driving fine ever since -- good luck!

-- forgot to mention the error was in the same gears 5 & 6

I'm not too worried about it
I'll probably drive just being aware that it did happen
