GM's competition against the New E92 M3--? THE G8
http://www.edmunds.com/il/pontiac/g8/index.html#
"The 2008 G8 packs four doors, rear-wheel drive, a big V8, a six-speed transmission and near 50/50 weight distribution. GM has even gone so far as to equip the G8 with a twin-pivot MacPherson strut front suspension with tons of caster, which is exactly the equation that provides BMW with its legendary steering feel. Just two line items would throw you off, though: The V8 is a stump-pulling 6.0 liters large and the price tag, not so much at $29,995." |

Not too bad, especially for <$30k.
Lots more BMW ripoff than just the front suspension - the side gills, from grilles, Hoffmeister kink, etc. Even look like she may have angel eyes. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." |

+1 Looks way better than what they have been providing for in the past. And for once promising.

I like it pretty well except for the blatant BMW cues, other than that it is a nice car.

I remembered seeing one of those on the road and I thought it was a M3 sedan. What a blatant ripoff of BMW. It really is the poor man's M3.

dang, I'm surprised you guys didn't know it's still made by Holden. "Still" meaning this is the evolution of the 2004-2006 GTO.... I know, you only care about cars with the roundel on the hood. I saw the G8 in person and it is a very large car. Too big for me. It has much better build quality than your average American car IMO.

i like ur sarcasm, especially about "tough, reliable, low maintenance" but i mean the Pontiac will make the NYC cabs faster.... idk if u know but those fuckers definitely do not need anything faster to drive, they're scary to ride with. but sure as fuck they know how to drive

I sat in one at the NY auto show this past spring. Downmarket (although not shamefully so), but the seats were comfy. Apparently it's a real handler as well, at least when you get the uprated tires on 19" rims. $33K with everything available. At the show, they also had an upgraded model on a turntable. It had a version of the Vette's LS3 motor, and the show folks said it'll be available after the first of the year, in either stick or automatic form. They said it'd probably come in at around $5K more. I don't think that even the upgraded model would compete with the M3, but it'd likely blow the 550 away, dynamically speaking. Still won't be cross-shopped much, but it's a hell of a deal, with known reliable driveline components. Bruce |

Edit: Okay, just checked their website, so I guess it is. Hell of a bargain from the looks of it.

M3 vs C63 vs VXR8
Here's a comparison with what I believe is the UK equivalent of the G8. Seems like a good value, but it bows out quickly here.
