Well I've learned my lesson.

So just reading around here awhile back now before I did anything to my car I remembered looking through intake threads and guys here amd there would say, do not buy an aftermarket air cleaner/intake. I did anyway and it has since caused me a ton of issues that I solved simply by just removing it and putting the OE one back on. Now I'm just going to go with a drop in for sure.

So I had a dinan stage 1 tune and decided it wasn't enough for me and bought a catless downpipe and switched over to boodmod3 because it supports catless and I could shortly go stage 2 because all I lack is the intercooler. When flashed over to bootmod3 I had all kinds of overboosting and wastegate issues, I first thought about the intake but brushed it off because 1, I spent alot of money on it and 2, I didn't want it to be the intake I like it. So if you are planning on buying some fancy intake, learn from my mistake. Buy a drop in lol. Anyone recommend a certain one? Since the 500 dollar intake was a complete waste.

A drop in will likely be no more effective than an intake.

What? I'm confused, I'm not talking about effectiveness, I now need a new filter for my stock air box, it's been established that the intake just trashed effectiveness on my Car so I'm simply asking what's a good filter for the OE Air box lol

For the N55 the factory intake supports maxing out the Pure Stg2 (+500whp).

I've run K&N for a while but honestly I'm planning on going back to the stock one. I noticed no perceptible difference with the K&N so you might as well go for the best air filtration, which would be stock.

I saw bmw makes a reusable "performance" one for our cars that's 25 bucks at pro tuning lab, I may just pick that one up

The OE filter. If a different filter worked better BMW would use it.

I find it strange you had such issues with an aftermarket intake. I have an Injen, first with no tune, and then with bootmod3 stg. 1. I'm still on a stock cat but have never had any issues like the ones you are having. Sorry to hear that because even if you don't gain any power, it looks good under the hood and you get pretty nice induction noise. That being said, I'd rather have a more reliable car that makes good power over aesthetics though.

OE intake does a fantastic job. If you want more sound look for a used MPPK intake. When I did my MPPK they swapped the OE intake for the MPPK one and it sounds great.

Agreed, I bought an Injen intake used for $200 and have had zero issues since installing it almost a year later. Looks good under the hood and the turbo noises are worth the money (only reason to buy an aftermarket intake on this car).

You could also modify the stock air box to mimic the MPPK one. Just gotta cut a hole (or drill several smaller holes) in the lower intake box. I just googled images of the MPPK box for reference.

Yeah I was pretty bummed about having to remove it, The AFE intake looked so good but it just takes in too much air and my pneumatic wastegate didnt know what to do with all the extra air so my car was over boosting like crazy (my Speculation). The ingen intake looks closer to the OEM design being concealed and having a smaller filter although its a cone, All I can think of. I actually looked at that one first. Now I'll just keep it stock although it doesnt look as good, Performance is far more important to me.

Lots and lots of logs with bootmod3 and talking to halim thru bootmod3 support. All the logs pointed to
the wastegate due to the extreme amount of excess air from that intake specifically, im not saying that all intakes are bad, probably pointless other than looks and sound, which I like too, but the OEM air box flows great. this thing was a massive Intake though. You never know, someone could put it on an EWG car and have no trouble. I'm speculating it's because of the pneumatic wastegate on my car.
