Am I missing something, or can only 8 audio presets on any kind be made?
I would think that if I select CD I could save 8 CD's. If I select SAT, I would be able to select 8 different SAT channels. Same with AM/FM mode. For some reason, I can't seem to set slot 7 for a SAT channel. I have 1-6 & 8 set, but #7 isn't resetting. Strange. |

The buttons aren’t specifically for the media, you can set each to any function on the idrive, so for example I set no 8 on my car to bring up the tyre pressures/temperatures.
Guess you are limited to 8 but I have seen others use 1 of the buttons to switch user profiles which would then allow you 14 in total? |

I initially thought the same thing, but couldn’t believe it to be true, so I did some digging; here’s a good thread to show how various forum members have theirs programmed: 1-8 shortcut keys
I currently have mine setup as follows: 1: Navigate to (nearby) Home 2: Toggle split screen on/off 3: Activate presets/favorites - I currently have about 10 set - a combination of FM and SAT. I use the steering wheel scroll button to access these, and they all display on my instrument panel as I scroll. 4: Bring up screen brightness adjustment 5: Bring up audio settings 6: Display tire temps/pressures 7: Activate “mouse” on iDrive controller 8: End navigation There’s a myriad of ways to set these things up - you’ll be impressed once you figure it all out and configure yours. |

Prob old news, but I just learned that when you touch (don't push) the buttons, aka hover, it will show you the preset

If you’ve ever then tried to manage your imported media then you’ll probably realise that using a usb stick with music on it is so much easier to manage and update. I persevered with saving stuff the the hard drive but the very first time I wanted to add an extra song to an existing library I gave up 😀

Is there any way to get more than 8 functions? For instance, is there like a "set 1" and "set 2" effect we can get? I'd like to save more than 8 presets. Thanks!

I don’t use mine that often
1 turn off display 2 sport displays 3 tpms 4 trip computer 5 ambient lighting I hate the hard drive for adding new music too. I ended up deleting everything and just using a usb stick. I can’t remember the last time I used a CD in the car. 2009?? |

Not that I've ever seen. Remember - these are not audio presets per se. For example, my button 2 starts SXM and brings up the channel list. From there, I can use the favorites function and see all my favorites (FM/AM/SXM) You can also just load your music to a USB thumb drive. Or, best way, just stream it from your smartphone. (you can also listen to a ton of radio stations via TuneIn or IheartRadio |

But, I'd love to be able to set a few more... but alas I can't.

For music selection, I just use the MODE button on the wheel and scroll through presets, HD FM, satellite, etc. But for CD's, I still use them. A lot. I am lucky enough to have a membership at alltunes com, owned by our friends the Russians, who steal and pirate everything, and the music is around 10 cents a song, or a buck or two for an album, so CD's come cheap. Plus CD's seem to make my H-K system come alive, more so than a USB stick, it seems to me.
