BMW alarm installation

Hi,

I recently purchased a used BMW 428i xdrive and noticed after I took it home that the car doesn't make a beep sound when I lock it. Normally I've seen the light under the mirror flash red in most BMW's but mine doesn't. Any ideas?

Thank you.,

Nick

The alarm isn't standard so you won't hear an audible beep unless you have it.

I dont have it either on my 328.

Looking into the retrofit but not sure how expensive or involved the DIY would be...

Anyone with insight, please share.

Got it, thanks. On getbmwparts.com, I searched alarm and it came to the Inclination Sensor - BMW (65-75-9-493-759). Is this all that is needed to install the alarm or is there more?

No there is more required I'm currently doing this retrofit, it requires the alarm bell and mount, a new roof function center (the thing with the lights above you near the driver seat in the middle on the headliner), and you have to run a cable from this new roof control center at the front of the car to the back of the car to the alarm bell which you will install in a space located above the wheel well liner on the left side. Theres is a diy here if you use the search and it should be a top post by roxxor. The install itself was not hard at all and sifting through eBay I was able to get everything for around 125$

Thanks for sharing...

The running of the cable from front to rear seems like the only challenge.

Any coding involved?

Yep no prob and yes that was the only pita, that and removing the left side trunk liner but that's because I'm kinda stupid when I'm hungry LOL but yea when it comes to coding I believe you just add an option and vo code it to a couple modules, I went on vacation before my new roof function center came so I decided to put everything in place so all I'd have to do is install the roof function center and code it when I got back.

I came back to inform that if you don't have a sunroof this is a tad harder, there is a possibility that you do not have kcan2 in position 14 and 15 on the FZD connector that is already up there and you will have to run kcan H and kcan L which I will be doing today

The uk spec cars have the alarm as standard.
But to make it beep you have to code it.
I'm not even sure what my alarm sounds like.

It's an annoying siren sound that you find by accident when you jack up one corner to swap tires.

So if there's no alarm, the car will not beep when you lock it? I thought all BMWs make the same lock tone that has nothing to do with the alarm.

Have you checked the lock settings in iDrive? There is a setting to enable/disable the lock sounds from there.

I had to enable the option for audible arming/disarming via coding after which I got an option in idrive.
