Unpredictable power lift gate

The lift gate sensor on my X1 has always been annoying. Goes up sometimes when I walk around my car. Goes down on top of my head when unloading groceries. Now that we have a newborn I’m worried about the safety.

Is there a way to disable this feature? I hate it.

Yes there is. There are 2 sensors behind the bumper that you can unplug, which will disable the automatic lift and close function. Do a search on this forum, as one of the members here did it successfully.

You can code to not accidentally close by disabling foot/kick sensor without any cable disconnects. The trunk will still open via initial feet/kick sensor, keyfob, trunk switch, and driver side trunk switch. It will stop unexpected trunk closing if your feet are near the sensors. It must be coded via expert mode using bimmercode app or esys. The only problem I can't remember the exact code off the top of my head, but will check my notes and post.

I keep my keyfob in case so no unexpected lift gate opening.

It's been working great for me and no problems or unexpected head injuries.

Ok the code is
FEM_BODY --> 3030 CaMaster --> CAM_SMART_CLOSE --> nicht Active

This will disable unexpected trunk closing when under the lift gate.

That's even better. Will need to check my Bimmercode App to see if this can be done. Cool.

Thanks!

Appreciate the other replies too, but I don’t code (even though I’m tempted).

No problem. When you look under the bumper, you have to loosen the heat shield a little to gain access to the sensors. There are 3 of them. It's the middle sensor that you have to unplug.

I think the Bimmercode or esys coding is the cleaner way to do, and also allows you to customize your X1 as well. It's quite easy, really.

I'd also go for the coding solution - much cleaner and lets you restore without a faff if you sell/change your mind.

There is a service bulletin for this; I had my liftgate sensor replaced with an updated part and the behaviour is significantly improved. My work order says the part is "61-35-7-932-682" and the service measure is "6337-9954"

No luck here when attempting to disable the trunk hatch closing. When BimmerCode is connected to my USA configured '17 X1 and the ECU's have been read, I see Front Electronic Module/Car Access System (BCD_01) instead of FEM_01. Clicking on that module anyways, shows me "3030 KEYMASTER" instead of "CaMaster". In the demo mode, BimmerCode does show "3030 CaMaster" under the FEM-01 ECU listing. Sooo...I'm stuck. Any suggestions or should I just try to do it in Esys?

Does anyone have any other codes to try? I don't seam to have either of the two suggestions in Bimmercode. Looked under Power Tailgate section, but nothing remotely like the suggested codes in expert mode. 2017 xdrive25d. UK Model.
