bmw.com/update actually has new software

For the heck of it, I tried bmw.com/update this morning. The site had been down for about a month, and it accepted my VIN today.

Believe it or not, there was new software available. Downloaded and installed it - didn't notice anything different, but that in itself isn't unusual.

You need to download to a USB thumb drive (don't have any other files on the drive), and update the software from iDrive. Start-to-end took about 4 minutes. You need to be parked with the engine running. After the update completes, you need to wait 1-2 minutes for the message on the iDrive screen to disappear (it's likely loading firmware).

Easy and fast.

I have a 2014 and it says mine is up to date. If I recall, the update I last installed was a few years old.

Still no updates for my 2013. Still the latest is 2014 UPD01008.bin which included updates for the iPhone IOS-5. In case BMW hasn't noticed, we're on IOS 12.1.1. Guess, I'm considered OBE and no more updates coming for us "old" guys

Tried mine today and the only update is this:

The complete call list is transmitted (iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X).

Doesn't really worth the hassle...

For me:

This updated software was specially provided to support the use of new mobile devices with Connectivity products from BMW:

- USB audio interface for media player support (SA 6FL)
- Hands-free kit with USB audio interface (optional equipment, code 6NH)
- ConnectedDrive Services (optional equipment, code 6AK)
- Intelligent emergency calling (optional equipment, code 6AC)
- Convenience telephony with extended smartphone connectivity (optional equipment, code 6NS)
- Apps (optional equipment, code 6NR)

Dealership had my car last week and did something software related because my profile settings were hosed up and some of the changes I'd coded were gone. The changes I made were all pretty minor so I redid them with BimmerCode. YMMV - good luck.
