Yeah, I had that thing off one time. It just has a little orange light for the cup holder. It serves no special function, it's just a cover.

Indeed... if you have the ambient lighting option and it's pre-LCI there's a light (LED) there. If you remove it, nothing else other than wiring

They usually leave those as placeholders in case they add more buttons in the future. Not sure if any F3x have had buttons places there, but I have seen it on older models.

Actually it's usually for manufacturing. It's easier to assemble with smaller panels like that, especially if it's installed out of the way and you really don't see anything from the driver's seat. Once huge panel that runs the entire underside of the dash would be nearly impossible to manufacture and install.

On the LCI panel there is a additional usb socket.
I've done the retrofit of the illuminated LCI trim and hvac panel. The pre LCI cover stays in place but the top clips arn't fully clipped in as the illuminated trim is slightly raised for the illuminated LED strip. Just wondering has anyone swapped out the cover for a LCI panel with the additional USB socket? |

Would be an easy retrofit. Suppose it could be hooked it up to the USB port that's used for the phone adapter under the centre console armrest. |

My ‘18 F33 has a usb port inside the center console. It has the 12v “cigarette lighter” socket (what are they called these days) under the glove box, in the front between the cupholders and one in the back under the vent. (3 total)
I’m going to dig around and see if I can add this usb port under the vent controls. It’d be nice to have one where I didn’t have to open the center lid. |

My 2015 328i does not have that in the center stack. Mine is in the cubby under the arm rest. And I assume one in the trunk and one for the back seat as I have the connectivity package or whatever they call it.
