With any sales position, the most important thing is having some previous sales experience...Every company is different though, it depends on who does the hiring; obviously you have to have the right personality for sales, but there are a ton of important factors including age, marital status (sounds crazy but it helps a lot if you are married), level of education etc...

have a good resume, proficient understanding of a sales/marketing job, and make it look like you know what you're talking about in the interview, and you should land a sales job at a stealership fairly easy.
