Recommend tire pressure for rear tires?

My 530e's rear tires are currently at 38-39 psi, but the recommended psi shown on the screen is 45 psi. They were set to 38 by the tire shop technician. So should I go with the BMW recommendation or the technician's?

I would go by the pressure printed on the sticker inside the driver's door.

Always go by the manufacturers recommendation that is on the sticker, remember they are the ones who built your car so they know it the best. In the olden days tire pressure were more or less the same (especially where I live) and you didn’t have a lot to go with so old mechanics even today still go with the “standard pressure” they have. Just a reminder, adjust them when the car is cold (shouldn’t have covered more than 2km from the start, if they are hot wait 2 hours for them to cool down).

Advice on plate on car is for fully loaded, and nowadays for rear an overloading is taken into account. So this is verry high, and comfort and gripp is totally gone when you drive allone ,wich is 99% of use.
So even 38 psi can be on the high side.

I am able to calculate a safe lowest pressure for the weights on tires and maximum speed used( and wont go over for even a minute).
Pressure advice is to give the tire a deflection that wont overheat any part of tire when driving the maximum speed used constantly.
Once a part of tire has been overheated long enaugh, the damage is ireversible, and every next deflection crackes the beginning cracks fuether, untill mayby only after 3 years the damage is that much build up that the tire blows, and accident and injuries. Then the moment of damagestart is already forgotten.

Also to add for every 10degrees is one psi. so to the point of adjusting them cold. i am not sure about your car but mine will display the temp at the wheel. so as an example say in the morning temp is low. as the day progresses and temp increases say by 40. and you have been also driving the car and with alot of breaking this will increase temp. and then the warning lamp will come on

To add more confusion ....
My car has different tyres at the front and rear. (F = 245/40 R19, R = 275/35 R19).
In iDrive, there is only an option to select a single tyre size type (19 inch).
If I select Winter/all season, then the pressures shown in iDrive are different to the pressures shown on the sticker. If I select summer tyres, then the numbers agree.
So do I go for the sticker pressures or the iDrive pressures ... if I go with the sticker pressures, iDrive keeps telling me I need to check the tyre pressures!

Reviving this thread. Just checked the tyre pressures on my 20” tyres on an M550i. 39psi front and back for normal load. Loaded up it recommends 45psi front and 51psi rear. Wow that seems very high to me.

Has anyone run the car fully loaded and those pressures?

I run my M550 non-rft summer tire set up at 38/42 per the manual for normal load.

Same here, and I have RFT Pirellis for summer, Michelin Alpins non-RFT for winter.

You are really missing out in summer! Pirellis suck in general, so Pirelli runflats must REALLY suck.

When they wear out, get yourself some summer softy Michelin PSS or PS4S's. You will love them coming from Pirelli runflats.
