mpg gauge to temp gauge

Hello,

I have problem with coding temperature gauge instead of mpg. I have found instructions on this forum how to do it but it stops on first step. I am attaching the instructions which have found here and the photo of my program.
On photo are CODIER DATEN with FF inside but it should be like in instructions numbers and letters on page 2 of instructions.

How to fix that if someone knows?

Thank you in advance.

You have choose the most difficult way to do it.

I suggest you to download Perfekt Toolbox. It's much easier.

Also, some engines are not compatible. What engine do you have?

Will it work on a M57 335d?

I think yes with the Euro 335d but no with the North America 335d.

That seems to be the general consensus.

Hmm, I wonder why? Any idea what the difference would be? Surely there's a oil temp sensor in both NA and EU cars.

I believe they have different DDE control units. After 2008 onwards for some reason the DDE software stopped broadcasting the temperature over the CAN on 0x1D0. Which is what the instrument cluster looks for.

The US only got the 335d in 2009? Even though it's still an M57 it's slightly different than the euro version.

However, you can use a piggy back device to hijack and send the temperature signal on 1D0. This has been done and works well. You'd need to disable some fault codes though via a custom tune.

Ok thanks, downloaded it and connected to car. Can somebody tell me now which data to write in that shows right temperature?

I have 328i N52 and mpg gauge.

I know nothing about this tool but I want to do the same for my car. Hopefully some experts or someone who has done it in the past can chime in and offer some help.

I found this which might help:
https://cartechnology.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=33202

The last attached picture shows the window for programming fuel consumption and has five values for motor steps. I'm assuming these steps correspond to the position of the motor that controls the needle on the gauge. It looks like the 0/444/888/1333/1777 which corresponds to the position of the marks on the gauge cluster. For example, if the car is currently consuming 5.4 L/100km the gauge needle motor would go to the 444 position.

So I would think that you would enter those same values for motor steps (0, 444, 888, 1333, 1777) and then for the five values above you would specify what oil temperature you want to correspond to those points on the gauge.

I have no idea what works best, or what nominal engine oil temperature is on the 328. I read 210-240 is normal, so maybe put 225 in the middle position and go with 185/205/225/245/265 to start?

You also might need to use a lower damping factor than what's specified for the fuel consumption screen (it was 13 at that link I shared), I'm thinking that oil temperature changes aren't going to be as sudden as fuel consumption changes.

Just don't blame me if something goes wrong.

I see yes, thank you for answer and solution to make this happen. But what can go wrong? I will have to write in degrees. I am thinking about to go from 60-80-100-120-140 degreese or make it more specific and less range from minimum to maximum?

I did 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 (in degrees Celsius not Fahrenheit). It matches up well with the intervals on my Canadian L/100km fuel economy gauge.

I should have caught that, you're right in using degrees Celsius (should probably do the same on my US car because all calculations seem to be done in metric units then converted just for display)
