I was offered two free tickets through BMW (thanks BMW!) for the BMW Championship at Aronimink Golf Club last week in Newtown Square, PA. I decided to go Friday which turned out to be great because it didn't get washed out like Sunday and was cooler than Thursday. Anyway while there there they had several vehicles on display (X2, i8, M4, M5, X5, and pre-production X7 and M850i convertible) including the Z4. I was happy to see it in the flesh finally! It was the First Launch Edition which is in Frozen Orange and was the same variant as what was shown at Pebble Beach.

I really enjoyed its proportions and thought it was well balanced. I didn't see it with the top up but I think I would like it even better as I like it in the pics more with the top up anyway. I didn't get to sit in it but got close enough. As the adage goes, it looks better in person than in pictures.

A few things that stood out:
The front doesn't look as wide as it does in the pictures and the rear is good looking!
The "stacked" headlights are still growing on me as are the non-slat grills.
The duckbill spoiler is interesting. Some angles I like it, others I don't.
The side vents in the fender appear to be functional!
The interior looks amazing, especially the seats. I love the pattern on them. I could do without the shadowline trim on the interior.
The iDrive screen is giant but that's the trend these days.
It was wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sports, 255/35/19 on the front and 275/35/19 on the rear.

I grabbed a few unique angles, including of the tires/wheels. I hope you enjoy!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I wish that they would go on tour with the grey version of the car.

Pre-Production X7? was it still wrapped? If not, did you get a pic? Yeah, I know this is the Z4, but you mentioned it in your post so I figured I'd ask!

No, it was totally naked. They took your phone and checked you with a metal detector wand to make sure you didn't have a camera. I thought it was very special that they'd even let anyone see it at this point. I'm planning on doing a separate write up of it in that forum but I haven't gotten to it yet. Later today!

I second this. I love everything I'm hearing about the launch edition, BUT the color. It'd be great it were offered in Frozen Orange AND Grey.

These are fantastic photos...!

Has BMW dropped the traditional "clowns nose" alarm led below the rear view mirror? I noticed the same on the new X5.

Damn! I had tickets to the BMW championship but was sick as a dog that day and couldn't go. I REALLY wish I had been able to be there to see this car. I do like it very much - IN FROZEN GRAY - or even in Silver, yet the fact that it is not a manual is very, VERY troubling. I also really want to see the 30i and what that front and rear look like to see if they're are at all attractive.

Also, to the OP, I have noticed the duck tail at some angles just doesn't look right as well. Disappointing.
