UK & Europe winter wheels & tyres

Following on from RBrown's Blizzak thread, i thought it might be useful for the UK/European guys and girls to gather some info on winter wheel and tyre options.

First of all, there's this:

Used them a lot. Wheels not on their site yet; I’ve been emailing them.

Seem to get exact size as BMW approved wheels and claim they come from same factory as BMW ones.

Wheels 8x19 ET30 no spacers required. Wheels take original bolts and do not require rings – these also take the OE BMW caps. Guaranteed fitment.

They offer package with TPMS and all balanced. About £1.6k all in. Seems good to me. Would just have preferred Continental tyres.

Let me know if you need to know more. Hope this helps.
I've noticed that the usual suspects (Leebmann24, etc.) are selling genuine BMW winter wheels and tyres for around €3000, give or take, like these:

19's - https://www.leebmann24.de/bmw-komple...112459596.html

20's - https://www.leebmann24.de/bmw-komple...112449758.html

Weird that the 20's are cheaper?

I know i can get a set of 245/50R19 Bridgestone Blizzaks (runflat, star marked) for around £160 per tyre so i'm loathe to pay £2000 for a set of genuine BMW wheels.

These look good value though at €2000:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEU-Origi...0AAOSwCTBbRHME

Anyone else found a decent solution without paying €3000+?

Not really yet, looking for the same, particularly at the 695 20" black wheels. Keep in mind the rims are expensive so it's not going to come cheap anyways :P

I'm also still looking for an answer if you can fit snowchains on the 20" wheels, according to the BMW info it's not allowed/possible. You will need 19" in order to fit snow chains, but 19" really look bad... and for the 1 time in 4 years that I will need snow chains I dont want to drive around on 19s all that time. But I need the possiblity to have snowchains. If you go the alps it's very good possible that after new snowfall you will be required to fit snowchains, even if you car doesn't need them. But going down after snowfall your xDrive will also not get you anywhere, the only help will be snowchains in that case.

Can you get snow socks instead of chains? They should fit on the 20’s even if chains won’t.

Yes possible but they are not considered official snow chains. So if the authorities demand chains for example in the alps on certain roads with fresh snow then the socks are not sufficient.

I bought a set of Genuine BMW 19" wheels and tyres from https://www.baum-bmwshop24.de/bmw-wi...l-rdci-x3-g01/. They're currently €2297.90.

I tried snow socks years ago - fine for a "once only" use - pretty poor alternative IMHO. Still have a set in the garage somewhere....

According to my research online I found out that BMW officially will not allow you to put on snowchains on wheels > 19". It probably has to with the space inside the wheel arch which becomes more narrow with bigger wheels.

However chains which are only 'external' like König K-SUMMIT XL K56 (https://konigchain.com/chains/consum...-k-summit.html) are possible to be used. But BMW will not give any guarantees in case anything breaks but I guess for me I would take the risk. The very few times that I will use these things it will be for a short and slow drive so I don't expect things to break.

Hi there,

Am new to the forum so forgive the question if it has been answered before but does the forum not negotiate group buys for winter wheels?

Being a Land Rover Defender owner we often negotiated group discounts

Cheers,

Steve

Well volunteered!

A forum discount from a UK dealer for a group buy probably still wouldn’t get close to the prices I’ve seen from a few German parts places - I asked at a couple of UK dealers for best price with forum discount etc. and they were hundreds away.

Thanks for info sharing and will see if I have any luck with my local dealership as they have always hosted my winters/summers for me and might be open to a group discount but as you say may not be able to match the German deals.

At the moment BMW Shop UK offers a 20% discount on all accessories/parts for new account registrations. Just purchased a set of Winter Wheels with a huge price discount, which makes it quite competitive to non OEM wheels.

That's a good deal - brings it to within 10% of the European price. Once you take into account delivery costs it's probably less than 5% difference.

Just tried to get a price but it says promotional code doesn’t apply to the wheels I selected (19” ferric Grey).

You need to have a new registration (email) and select collection for it to work.
