New M40i owner

Hi Guys,
After selling my E92 M3, I've been driving an F150 truck for almost 3 years, which was absolutely a great vehicle without any issues besides the most common problem these trucks are having with their infamous frozen door latches during cold months on the new alumnium models as well as F250 and F350's. As the lease was nearing to it's end, and running some numbers I decided to trade it for another bmw. After Listing the truck on several forums and CL, I barely had any luck with interest from potential buyers. Ever since this M40i came out, I told myself I would buy one sooner or later.
Once I brought it home, the next day I gave a quick proper wash. I have de-contaminated the paint, clayed it, and put a coat of paint sealer. There is very few swirls on few panels, but not as bad, as I specifically requested not to have the dealer wash it after the purchase.
Supposedly, this is the only year they are making them as there is a rumor of X3 M coming out next year. It was either this or X5. I have not drove it much yet, but it can either be a regular Cosco grocery car or an animal once put in sport mode. Once switched into sport mode, it feels as if you were driving a completely different car. From throttle blips on downshifts to the exhaust back firing, this simply puts a smile to my face.
I will most likely keep it as is, only with some addition of window tint to match the rest of the car and keep the interior cooler.

Welcome.

Yes you can haul groceries like a champ with this thing.

Add the bms intake or a nice growl.

The X3M is coming but won’t replace the M40i, it’ll be a bracket higher for performance and price.
Don’t worry, the M40i is a fantastic car and more than enough bang for buck 😁

Congrats on the M40i, and you better start making a lot of trips to the grocery store in order to get that 1200 miles on it. Mine hit 1200 miles yesterday. Wahoo!

Sold a 2016 Tundra TRD PRO Crewmax and haven’t look back yet.

Congrats on the M40!! I have a 30i and I cant stop smiling when I put it in sport. I can only imagine what an M40 will do.

I have an Alpine White myself, so can you please advice on the part "...de-contaminated the paint, clayed it, and put a coat of paint sealer". What did you use, how did you do it and all?? Much appreciated.

Welcome!

Great looking car. My dealer didnt touch the car (at my request) prior to me getting i. First thing I did was the same as you! Good to see another person “2 bucket washing!”.

Wait until the car reaches 1,200 miles!

When I de-contaminate, which mean removing any particles you wouldn't be able to remove during a regular wash such as rail dust, or small particles of rust, I simply use Adam's wheel cleaner with a 50/50 ratio of water and spray the whole car. the wheel cleaner will simply dissolve the particles once it starts working. Then I wash the car and clay it for a smooth surface before any paint correction or paint seal is applied.

Here's a video of it.

Thank you,
Although I am nowhere near the 1200 mile point, I have been driving the car with higher rpms for a proper break in. I am getting no where near the rev limiter, but the worst thing you can do to properly break in an engine is to baby it. It is a proven fact especially on motorcycles.

Agreed.

I’m driving mine fairly hard, but not redlining it. Much!

Love it. I just picked mine up a month ago - Alpine White with Cognac. The 21" are tough to keep clean; went with Pro-Ceramic the wheels and car - very pleased with how easy to clean (i've already hit 2000 miles). The current 340 / 440 felt like my old 335I with power pack and DHP; this car won me over after a short drive.

Nice. I wonder why so many complain about how hard the wheels are to clean. I honestly don't think they are too bad. I use boars detailing brush to get into crevices and lug nut holes.

The difficulty with the 718M is the matte finish. Wiping them down in between washes is harder than if the wheel had a clear coat finish IMO

That's the main reason I went with the 20's on my ordered 2019. At least they have a clear coat on them.
