Trading my F15 M50d against an M40i on Thursday. My local dealer had a cancelled order for a fairly standard spec M40, bar a couple of options, so I’ve bitten the bullet. These cars come with all the important stuff as standard, so I’m sure I’ll be happy with the car as is.

I was going to wait for the new X5 to come out, but there won’t be any deals until next year, so plummeting values on the F15 made me jump ship now.

I looked at a couple of fully specced cars on the BMW website, but they are selling used for new prices as there’s quite a wait for the M40i here in the UK, so I’m not convinced I’ll get that premium back when I sell in a year or two.

The standard spec is still pretty good!

There aren’t many M40s on the road. You will love it! I’m hoping the rarity of them just now may keep residual values relatively ok, but time will tell!

Thanks guys. It’s carbon black with brown leather. It was a toss up between this one, or another £5k for one with quite a few options, but when I looked at what the other one had, and what I would realistically need, I’d be paying an extra £3k for a load of stuff I’m not that bothered about. And I’m sure I wouldn’t get that back come resale time!

I could have ordered one to my exact spec, and waited until October as well, but mine will have lost another £1-£2k, and the discounts offered by carwow still weren’t as high as the discount I got on this one.

Congrats on the order, yes UK standard spec seems quite high compared to rest of Europe, I am sure it will be great

Congratulations! Loads of toys even in basic spec so I'm sure you'll be more than pleased. They're enough of a rarity that I still haven't seen another M40i yet. I'm starting to see a few G01s generally now though, mostly X-Lines.

Car arrived early, so I picked it up today. Pictures to follow.

It doesn’t have Apple CarPlay, which I really wanted. I’ve tried buying it from bmw, but they say it’s not compatible with my car. Are there any other ways of getting it?

Do you have the Wireless charging pad in front of cup holders? You need WiFi for Apple CarPlay which comes with the option that adds that pad

I ordered CarPlay without the wireless charging and hotspot. My expectation is that wireless CarPlay will work regardless.

It will. While wireless carplay does need wifi, the car still has wifi even if you do not order the wireless charging/hotspot. It's just that the wifi only works with carplay, and doesn't function as a hotspot.

Edit: however, the charging/hotspot also gives you a second USB port inside the center armrest, and a second mic (passenger side). It also adds the ability to connect a second phone simultaneously to the car, although I'm not sure of what use this is.

No, I don’t. But my M50d didn’t have wireless charging or WiFi, and that had it.

Sorry, I always thought it needed it, have you tried logging onto the connected drive desktop site and see if it appears there?, make sure your X5 has been deleted as well incase if any conflict

*Edit* No that won't work, you do need the Wireless antenna to get CarPlay added, see my post further down, it may be your X5 had it from the factory?

I believe CarPlay requires the enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging in the G01 X3.

Thanks, that was what I thought as well, I thought I was going mad, I'm sure I remember seeing somewhere CarPlay requires the wireless antenna

Found it, yes to add CarPlay after production through connected drive store car requires Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging

You can add CarPlay to a factory order without it though which maybe why M50D has it? I assume then they just fit the wireless antenna on the production line

Yeah, forgot about that little curlique. If you add the wifi antenna and code the car to enable enhanced bluetooth, you can supposedly buy carplay via the connecteddrive store. See this thread.
