X5 looks to be a better deal than X3 M40i
at 61k
X5 base includes Driver Assist, Navigation and digital dashboard, Apple carplay same engine. adding M sport package (6k)and you have leather, M sport suspension, 20 in. rims and keyless entry (not to mention M sport steering wheel) prem pkg (2k) gives Parking Assist, HUD, wireless charging at 70k incl. dest. you are getting a 64k X3 M40i equiment... BUILD CODE DO9CBP8T. exec pkg (2k) gives things X3 can't get |

Some people don’t want that large of a vehicle... I know being in northern california, big vehicles like this are hard to wiggle in spots unless you like dings.
Further, there’s always a price limit somewhere. You can keep adding 7-10k and price yourself into a fully loaded Model X before long :P That said, the new X5 interior is hot. |

The thing about driving a X5 is that you feel like you're driving a X5. That is, it doesn't feel like a car like the X3 does. That's not saying it's a bad thing - it's just what you're looking for. Anyway, I am curious - where did you find those numbers for the X5? I could not recreate what you said on the BMW site for the X5.

So, $6K more than mine and I can be almost a full second slower in the 0-60mph dept? No thanks. I can take the money and spend $2100 on a Dinan package and lower my 0-60 to around 3.9 seconds, still have a ton of tech and nice interior for way less (especially since I got mine very loaded for $59K. Seriously though, I dig the redesign and this should sell well. I just don't need to have one that big and clunky...and I'm not a huge fan of the rear taillights. I feel like they resemble the VW Atlas or the Audi Q7 too much...interior is super nice though...but I like mine too. |

X5 = big luxury bus with 7 seats
I'd rather have something more fun to drive, more nimble, and without the extra 300kg and fuel consumption. 0-60 in the X3 M40i? 4.6 0-60 in the X5 40i? 6.5 New X5 is very impressive but it doesn't change my choice.

From the bmw.co.uk website:
https://www.bmw.co.uk/bmw-cars/x-models/2018-x5 340hp. With a 6-cylinder petrol engine, which delivers 250kW (340hp), the BMW X5 xDrive40i combines superior xDrive all-wheel drive traction with the refined BMW TwinPower Turbo engine. The results are undeniably impressive, going from 0 to 62mph in just 6.5 seconds.

I'm thinking your quoted G05 40i 0-60 time is a BMWUK error, as they seem to have quoted the F15 0-62 time of 6.5 (0-60 6.1)

Yeah, you have to bump up to the 50i to get the same performance as the X3 M40i. I won't bother doing the comparison but it will surely change things quite a bit.

I live in a townhouse with a single car garage. X3 (both F25 and G01) fit nicely, the last time I had an F15 loaner it didn't really fit at all - so neither will the G05. X3 it is for me unless someone can figure out how to enlarge my garage without pissing off the neighbors.

Yeah you guys are comparing 0-62mph versus 0-60mph etc. Plus, it's still almost 15K more and larger. Could go V8, but worse mileage and same performance. And 4.6 is incorrect too since everyone knows the M40i does it in 4.4 seconds. I'll wait until the new X5 is tested to see the true 0-60 time. But I also am not a fan of the rear lights, so I wouldn't choose it anyway. Short of an X5M or X3M, the M40i is the best there is.

I also like the size of the X3 vs the X5. I wish there was an option for a nicer interior fit and finish like there is on the X5, I would have been all over that.
Maybe the X3M will have that option? I would likely trade up to that as long as the performance can match my tuned X40. |

Well I’ve just traded my F15 M50d for an X3 M40i, and have no regrets whatsoever. Yes, the X5 is a bit more refined and plush inside, but the M40i is so much more involving to drive, and LOADS more fun!
