Question about software update version (& office features)

I'm new to BMW, and I'm a little confused about how to ensure I have the most current software version (without having to go to the dealer). I bought a used 2015 435i xDrive convertible. I don't know the service history to know whether this car has been flashed by a dealer recently.

My iDrive screen shows:

Media: MN-003.003.001
Phone: TN-003.003.001

When I put in my vin to check on updates, it comes back with UPD05074. However, the info about this software update doesn't have any info regarding updates that are higher than "002.xxx.xxx".

Is there any harm in attempting to install the update from BMW? By that, I mean if I already have a later version of the software, is the car smart enough to know that and tell me that I already have a current version? Is there a way to confirm that I have the most current software based on what I've described so far?

Also-- I keep reading references to Office features. I'll search for more info, but is there a good thread or page that can describe all of the features available (and also whether my car is capable of doing this)?

Thanks,
Jeff

That update available for download pre-dates what you have installed. The BMW website is rarely up-to-date. You have the same version I have, and from what I understand, since the website is outdated, you can only be sure by contacting BMW or you dealer.

I have the 002.xxx.xxx version - My local dealer would not update the car unless something is faulty and right now they seem to be unable to update the car's service history. The car is going back just for that tomorrow, I really hope they refresh the step completely...

I just downloaded the update that’s on bmw’s website and uploaded it to my car. I don’t know if it was more current than what I had before but my Bluetooth connection is working more smoothly since the upload, particularly when using Pandora. The car still doesn’t recognize my bmw factory Y cable though...

You can always say that you are experiencing "bluetooth dropouts" (even if not), and the dealer should flash your car in order to "fix it".

I did try that while the car was under warranty, but they never played ball, in the end I coded EBT myself and was hoping BMW would release the update file in some point... never happened...

The car came back from the garage and they finally updated the service history - a bit of a cock up from their side as they seem to have serviced the car AGAIN (changed the break liquid)... sadly doesnt look like they updated any software.
