4th BMW in a row...probably my last
Picked up my M40i at the factory/PDC which I highly recommend doing. But 2 issues have made me think this is my last BMW for now:
If you've read about the leather seat issues (ripples, bubbles, etc.), it is indeed a real problem that BMW is doing nothing about. I have 2 areas that I pointed out during delivery (see pics) that BMW says is within "manufacturing specs". Which is another term for we won't fix it unless you really make an issue out of it. Then, all of the audio went out after 3 days, and my cars' been at the dealer for a week now waiting for a replacement amplifier to come from Germany. Evidently they can't allow you to drive the car since the warning chimes aren't working (along with radio, nav sound, etc), so it's deemed a safety issue. This is my 4th BMW in a row (x5, 535, 740, x5), and I've never experienced such an immediate failure along with such poorly manufactured seats. If I wasn't picking it up at the PDC, I would have rejected delivery of my custom ordered m40i at the dealer. And that probably would have gotten the issue resolved. Last point. The Bridgestone tires are noisy, and when you price compare them to the other available brands (for 20's), they're much cheaper. IMHO, BMW has cut corners here as well which will force many of us to replace them with a more road worthy alternative. So, a head's Up - if you're taking delivery, check the rear seat leather. If it's bubbled, buckled or rippled, DO NOT accept it. Because BMW is unwilling to make it right. Last edited by olneymd; 06-30-2018 at 08:09 AM.. |

2nd pic leather looks fine to me. 1st pic definitely looks bad. The dealer wouldn't offer to replace later down the line? I wouldn't really count on other brands being better everyone is trying to cut corners and save money nowadays. It's why I lease. No car is going to be perfect. Just use, enjoy and return.
