Audio Issues Using CarPlay & 3rd Party Apps Running In Background?

So I have been giving CarPlay another try for the past few months, after giving up on it initially when I purchased my car. I actually think I like it better now, ever since I retrofitted an OEM touchscreen in my car. However, there is one annoying issue that I don't like and was wondering if there is a fix for it....

If I have a 3rd party app, like Waze, running in the background just to hear the audio alerts, the audio alerts don't come through. The iDrive audio will stop briefly, but not long enough for the audio from the app to come through. Conversely, if I turn CarPlay off and connect my phone to iDrive using the standard bluetooth connection, audio from 3rd party apps in the background comes through just fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? And more specifically, is there a solution to get audio from 3rd party apps to work with CarPlay, just like it does when CarPlay is turned off?

Most likely easier to wait until the new release with 3rd party Apps like Waze, though that’s not much help now

I don't believe Waze is a supported app yet so that's likely why.

In all honestly, waze is marginally better than Apple maps or google maps. Both of which, work fine with car play.

It is not just Waze, but ANY app that produces audio in the background from the phone connected to the car via CarPlay - even Google maps.

For example, I use another app called RadarBot which alerts the driver to red light cams and speed cams on your route. I don't want to see it on the screen, just hear the alerts via my car's speakers. This works fine with CarPlay turned off - the app will interrupt the audio from iDrive (usually the radio for me), play the alert as a phone call, then go back to the radio after the alert is done. With CarPlay on, it will interrupt the radio for a split second, but not long enough for the audio alert to come through. The result is the radio being briefly muted off/on rapidly for the few seconds the alert is supposed to be playing...

Correction..... any 3rd party app that not supported with car play does what you say.
