What does the dealership get from the car carrier?
So, my car was released to the trucking company on the 10th with a dealer ETA of the 15th. Still not there. Since it already had to get a new door at the VPC, my mind is naturally getting paranoid. Is there any chance the dealer got it with damage, is doing some more repair at their body shop and not telling me? Do they get anything from the carrier (the truck, not the boat) that says they received it with no damage? Does anyone know the name of the document?
I don't think tracking it on OC will help me much since it's usually a few days behind...... Dude, Where's My Car? |

I would be VERY worried if I were you. This is not normal, and usually indicates major damage to a body panel.
Kidding. The wait sucks, doesn't it? Sometimes it takes the trucks longer to get to the dealer than advertised.

Any damage over a certain amount you have to be notified like you were for your door. It is very odd that you are in NC and the car is coming from SC. Should only take a day or so to get there.
But being released to the trucking company does not mean that it got on a truck that day. It could take a week or so if they are waiting for more cars to put on the truck. With fuel costs these days they probably want to maximize their loads so it might take longer.

Lol, I'm in Milwaukee.... I'm just too lazy to change my profile from my NC days.
Thanks for the kind words EK_335i.. Do you know what the threshold is for the dealer to notify me? Anyone know if they'd have to tell me if I asked? BK, rough mang.... rough..... Dude, where's my car?, Mooreski |

I know from my experience the dealership lost tracking information once the vehicle left the VPC, i.e. it wasn't as if they call a number to find the whereabouts. So no info for a 2-3 day window. Maybe it's just me or due to purchase as opposed to lease--I would not knowingly accept a car that's had body parts replaced prior to my taking delivery. Nothing's perfect, but I don't want something damaged before the get-go. my .02

I've thought a lot about the door issue. I'm more ok with the entire door replacement than I am with a scratch repair. I'm going to inspect it carefully, and I'm still waffling as to if I'll reject it or not.
For the tracking time, I understand the dealer can't track the carrier, it just worries me since when the boat originally docked, the dealer was delivering cars from it 2 days later (May 22nd to May 24th). 10 days is starting to seem excessive. But the most important original question: Anyone know the name of the paper the dealer gets from the carrier detailing if there was any damage on the truck? |
