Dinan Stage 1 for M240i/B58 Reviews

Can't seem to find a ton of feedback about the reviews of this for the B58. Most are for N55. I know of one Youtuber who is having a lot of problems with the stage 1 on his M240i. Anyone out there with positive reviews? Want to hear more before I pull the trigger.
Also anyone recommend a dealer/installer in the SOCAL/ LA area?

It is worth every penny in my opinion. I've had mine installed for a few months now and have had no issues.

Had mine 2 months with no problems. Went to the dragstrip and did 12.5 1/4 1.78 60ft. Like adding 10% more power. Bmw installed.

I've had it on my car for almost 20,000 miles now. I popped a code recently, it has not returned, and other than that it has been perfect. Nothing bad to say here.

You can check my posts to see the full story, but the skinny is had it installed, all was well for about a month, then CEL, then went away, then a couple week later, CEL, brought it in, communication faults, they removed the device, reattached it, then months later a solid CEL for many days, and could not reach the device Via Bluetooth (was always hard to though). Brought it back to dealer, they gave me a loaner, removed the tuner only (leaving the harness), Dinan sent new tuner, dealer attached new tuner to harness, all good for a week or two, then CEL, brought it back to dealer, Dinan sends entire NeW unit, tuner and harness, installed about 3 wks ago, everything working fine. By the way, the Bluetooth connection issues are solved 100%. End result is that I had a defective tuner and harness.
Hopefully all is well, and there will be no more issues, however, the performance is very noticeable, and worth the $$$$, also, Dinan_Engineering NEVER balked on dealing with the issue(s), there appeared to be no conflict between the dealer and DINAN. I will continue to purchase their products, and ALL their products that they produce for this car, because their product is great, and when there is an issue they take care of if. Side note, when the problem started they offered to refund my money.
Bring on the CAI Stage2!!!

I had similar issues with boost and fuel codes; also had a 'drivetrain malfunction' message on the i-drive a couple of times. But, oddly no CEL.
Dealer (BMW & Dinan) tried a couple of times to clean and reconnect, with me driving it for a while after. The codes kept returning. Then, they (Dinan) wanted to try replacing the ECU and the harness separately and drive it for a while after each. That's where I drew the line. I had it with the 'try this, try that' method of diagnosis. I insisted they replace the ECU and harness at the same time with a whole new unit. They did. So far, no issues.
As others have said, even with these issues, I can recommend the product. It makes a great car even better, while maintaining stock-like drive-ability. And, they stand behind their product. I just bring it to my dealer and tell them to figure it out. And, they do. That's worth the extra $$$.

It's soooo expensive for the gains.

I had it installed for 1 day, and demanded my money back. Just not worth the $. Bought the JB4 immediately after, and I would say it is noticeably better performance for significantly cheaper.

I'd say you are full of it too.

Yes its more expensive than JB4 but there is no way the JB4 is "noticeably better performance"

The extra money you spend is to keep the factory warranty

Because of this, if I buy more power the Dinan product is the one I will buy.

Just to be absolutely clear, BMW factory warranty does NOT cover Dinan parts. Dinan has a dinan warranty on their parts and for cars under new car warranty, covers "directly affected" OEM components.

From their site:"The Authorized Dinan Dealer will, without charge for parts or labor, repair or replace the defective Dinan component(s), as well as any original vehicle manufacturer’s component(s) that may have been directly affected by a Dinan component, using new or authorized remanufactured parts.

You would hope that Dinan and factory warranty can overlap enough (Magnusson moss) to provide OEM equivalent warranty, but just be aware it is NOT the same as factory warranty on a stock car.

In fact, straight off their warranty page "Consumers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the specifics of Dinan’s Limited Warranty, including exclusions and potential effects to the manufacturer’s limited new car warranty, prior to making the decision to purchase and install Dinan products and systems"

So it's no different than buying anyone else's tune?

If we are going off posted numbers then there really is little performance difference between the two.

So how do you come up with "noticeably better"

Yes it is different.

If you experience issues you take the car to a BMW dealer (one that is a Dinan dealer) and can have you car worked on under warranty.

Best advice is to find out if you have a local BMW dealer that is also a Dinan dealer.
If you do, go talk to them directly. You will get better and more accurate information than anyone on this forum can give you.

I did, and my dealer is one of the biggest Dinan dealers in the state. They fully support warranty and Dinan products.
Heck they even sell brand new vehicles with $20k+ stage 4 Dinan mods and full warranty on them.

Thanks - this is what I'd been led to believe prior to reading the post I responded to.

I'm fortunate to have a BMW dealer that is also a Dinan authorized dealer only 20 minutes from my home. There's also a Dinan premier authorized dealer 30 minutes away, so I'm well-covered as far as dealers go.

My point is that it's NOT factory warranty...It's a combination of dinan and factory warranty which potentially leaves gaps. That being said, Dinan is smart to go through BMW dealers so in general they will find that intersection point between dinan and factory warranties to keep you covered...If the person working on your car is authorized Dinan but not a BMW dealer, or vice versa, that's when you could have issues.

But don't take my word for it. Just read the disclaimers on Dinan and BMWs warranty coverage. BMW will treat dinan mods like any other mods and potentially deny coverage..Just that Dinan provides their own warranty to hopefully cover what gets denied by BMW.
