N52 Oil from 5W40 to 0W30 question
Hi guys,
Simple question, not trying to get a oil war started, currently I have done one oil change myself and put in Castrol Edge 5W40 Full Synth. I had a better look now and although I know if it's LL01/04 approved oil it should be okay I should have probably put 0W-30 in. I read one (!) post saying you shouldn't fill up your engine with another oil then that was in there. So my question... is it OKAY and does it really matter if I would drain my current oil and fill it up with Castrol EDGE 0W-30 after having Castrol EDGE 5W-40 in? This is just so I know that I'm doing the correct thing Regards |

I ran that Edge 5w40 for 5000 miles but one of my buddies told me it's prone to shear. I've recently put LiquiMoly MolyGen 5w40 in the motor. It runs very smoothly. I've used Liqui-Moly oils for several years in my M3 and now am only going to run it in the 328.

What have I done Yeah I just looked at Liqui Moly Molygen which isn't even available where I live (The Netherlands) and doesn't seem BMW LL compliant so I won't be using that just to be sure. Think I'll put in Castrol Edge 0W-30 as is recommended per Castrol website. Guys before this escalates any further with extra virgin olive oil from the backroads of napels from a farmer named giancarlo... THANKS thread can be closed |

+1 for the Castrol Euro 0w40. It is a great oil, BMW LL-01 certified, and is available pretty much anywhere including WalMart. You can use it year round because it has great cold flow properties and is a 40 weight at operating temperature.
