2019 Automatic Engine Start/Stop
Hi there,
There were rumblings that there would be no way to turn this feature off on 2019 models. Is that true? Can it still be coded off? I am considering moving my build to a 2019 build for the steering wheel (sigh), but want this feature off too permanently. Thanks! |

I heard from BMW HQ's that vehicles produced after August will not have the disable button. Also photos of the new X5 and 8 series are Euro models. Maybe they get to keep the disable button? Guess will see when vehicles get delivered that were built from the August date and later.

It could be a tightening of the regulation from the US Feds. From what i heard all cars that want to claim the better mpg that arises from the use of the start/stop have to currently require that every ignition start include with the feature enabled. A few years ago that wasn’t the case so maybe the rules are tightening a bit more.

It might be worthwhile learning to use the brake to control when you do not want the engine to shutdown.
It worked well on my 2014 X1 Still waiting for my X3, but I am sure it would work the same. |

Curious question does anyone know how big of an impact start/stop has on emissions and fuel consumption?
I've always driven with it off since I find it annoying and I assumed stand still engine on would have minimal impact on fuel economy. But maybe it is of bigger importance than I thought. |

https://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/...save-fuel.html I always have it ON as it does not bother me. The ASS in G01 is a great improvement over my previous BMW, it is much faster and quieter, it does not cause any delay or "lag", and it saves me money. In hot temperature, they way it slows the AC can be annoying. But in cooler temperature, the whole system is pretty seamless. So I am not sure why it is so much hated in this forum. It is a good feature both for your wallet and the environment. Last edited by nosnoop; 06-18-2018 at 04:32 AM.. |

I don’t know how you can say it doesn’t cause any delay....the engine is off and it has to start after you press the throttle. It even annoys my wife, who is rarely annoyed by anything (except me). The trending solution is the hybrid where starting off is always handled electrically, if the mode calls for combustion it can be taken care of during.

From what I can tell most people find it annoying simply because they are aware it is happening. I've seen many people drive these kinds of cars and be oblivious to the fact that it is even happening, the car goes the same when they push the gas. |

I posted this in a previous thread, but my main gripe with ASS is the shutoff. BMW programmed it to shutoff just before you come to a stop (maybe .25-.5 second), which when combined with the grabby M sport brakes, tends to make stopping the car quite jerky. Also, when in very slow stop and go traffic, sometimes ASS swaps on/off very quickly if you're feathering the brake and nearly approach stopping, which is a little annoying.
I just wish BMW had programmed it so that the car shuts down the engine when the car comes to a complete stop, instead of just before. In the meantime, I tend to disable it whenever I get in the car. |

I suspected that but it weakened my argument. I recall having the car in auto-hold one day not so long ago and it seemed to start out on itself when the light changed back to green!

Any news on this? Has anyone picked up a 2019 M40i yet? Mine will arrive in about 5 weeks.
Hopefully can code it off with Bimmercode?
