What sensor is this?

Just replaced spark plugs and coils, putting things back together and have a question about this sensor on the driver side. It had tape holding it there before I took things apart. Took the tape off, now it’s just hanging loose. The passenger side plugs into something so that side is secure. I guess I just have to tape it up again similar to what it was here?

Pre-wiring for hood sensor (for alarm system)

I'm guessing your car isn't equipped with alarm, or it would be plugged in.

Other side is AUC sensor.

Thought I had alarm. Just bought this car used.

So this thing is just useless if not plugged in and since it’s not plugged in I’m just taping it so it doesn’t flop around?

No alarm in that car.

E90's (to my knowledge) all come pre-wired for alarm system and have the clown nose under the mirror regardless of whether they actually have the alarm.

The good news is that retrofitting one is straightforward. There are a number of posts on here that can walk you through it
