Vbox Tested: Stock w/93 octane

Hey guys,

I have a Vbox Sport (similar to what car mags use to measure 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc. but measures 20hz/second instead of 10 or 15) that my wife got me 2 years ago for Christmas and I like testing cars to see how they perform. I did a big Vbox thread for my last car (Edge - 2.7TT) and it was interesting to see how mods made it faster, etc...

So tonight I used launch control for the first time on my 1775 mile M40i to see what she can do... and she does NOT disappoint...

Results below using vboxtools website.

(1-Ft) stands for 1 foot roll out similar to what you would see the car mags or at the track. VERY interesting to say the least and I am blown away on how fast it is using launch control... next test will have to be with no launch just to see how big of a difference it is...

Specs.
Stock 2018 BMW X3 M40i
19'' All Season Bridgestone
1775 miles
93 Octane
-300 DA

Very cool... love the data. And yeah will be interesting to see the difference without launch control.

Thanks for sharing, GT500R. I had some time this morning so placed your data in the Sim vs a stock G01 X3 M40i and some of my hypothetical F97 X3Ms with varying HP. I used the true 0-60 as the sim does rather than 1-ft for apples-apples comparison. Will be interesting to see how launch control varies as you mention. Definitely useful to run baseline numbers to serve as reference if future modifications done.

Here are a few links for those interested in reading about 1-ft times and testing:

That looks about right for a stocker.

I am running 4.15 0-60 AND 12.48 in the 1/4 mile with a tune and intake.

For those that want this data. Dragy is just as accurate as VBox and is $149 vs $400-$500 plus everything downloads to your phone automatically.

Thanks Max, I will test the 0-10 / 20 / 30 / etc etc. next time to see how well the Vbox holds up against the simulation, but seem very spot on for a first run

Dragy is just as accurate as the Vbox (the large one you see in youtube video's) although I haven't seen it tested against a Vbox sport (which measures 20hz/s vs. dragy 10hz/s.

That 12.48 is on 93 and intake is BMS? JB4 right?

Hard to say if the 10 vs the 20hz would make much difference since the 10hz is accurate to .01 sec.

Nope, on 93 I can only go up to map 2 and runs around 12.85. On Map 3 and 5, I have to run 96 and both maps have a 4.15 0-60 but Map 3 falls off to 12.77 in the quarter while Map 5 goes 12.48. I will likely see some better times when the weather cools. The heat index has been staying in the 110-115F range here in Texas.

The mods are BMS intake and JB4. All my data screams for Meth Injection but I don't think I will take it that far.

Any idea what the DA was for the runs? And did you run stock before and after to see how much the tuned shaved off the 1/4?

DA was 2503 ft which was good for here in the summer. We had a shower that morning and cooled things off.

I actually never have ran it stock just on various maps. I need to but I know by seeing stock numbers from a lot of guys that it's knocked over 0.5 seconds off.

By the "seat of the pants" or Azz-Dyno...there is a night and day difference. I tell myself everyday, after a couple of romps..."man this thing is fast".

And with a 35 year history of drag racing Pro-Mods and Outlaw Street cars, I know fast. Of course, it's not that kind of fast...lol...
