Hello All, would anyone have an idea when the idrive 7.0 will be introduced to the G01 or G02 platforms? any insight is appreciated, thank you.

Don't know exactly but if I had to guess then ar LCI launch. Also, I've heard 7.0 is dramatically different compared to 6.0. Those new to the brand will learn it quickly, those that have history will struggle during the learning curve.

Agreed. I wouldn’t expect it anytime sooner than the LCI which will be around 2021 or 22.

I hope it takes a while to be released. I don't want my 6mo old car to be outdated yet. No BMW will have it until the end of the year anyway. Then it's just X5 and even longer to trickle to the rest of the lineup

The X3/4 will lag in the latest tech but it’s the price we pay for the inferior number in the Bmw line up. On the other hand the most advanced and latest infotainment in the Merc line up is the new A class

Yeah, don't worry, the x3/x4 will have the most dated interiors in time to come. These are recent launched cars that yet do not have the refreshed interior design in the upcoming 3 series and the x5. It sorta missed the start of the new design cycle, meaning it will be the last to be updated.

They were most dated in last gen too( no iPad dash) same now. After seeing that new wow interior of the X5, hard for me to jump into an X3.

Yeah, so this cycle will just continue. Sucks that they don't bother changing with the LCI.

The x4 will be worst. Will already be dated even before the first car is delivered!

Possibly at the same time they upgrade the engine to 380HP which I gather is 2020MY.

Front and rear refresh are relatively cheap to do. Changing a dash design involves a whole lot more money that designers would not get past the bean counters for approval.

Same thing happened with the F26. When it was released, we already had the F30 with newer tech and "floating" nav screen.

Good point.

But come to think of it, the OP is just asking about the idrive version update, which is certainly possible. I believe it happened in the f30 and f48, jumping from idrive 5.0 to 6.0.

This is kind of a lost cause. I have given up on trying to keep up with the latest in vehicles. Just get what works best for you. I guess one consolation is that this body style is brand new and we have about 5 years before the next (significant) spy pics show up. Its part of why I went with the X3 and not the X4 at the time though, so I'm just as guilty.

You mean as an lci for I am not aware you can update version of idrive through a software update.

I can't see why they won't update the G01 to idrive 7.0 next year to use the same 10 inch screen, I appreciate they won't/can't update idrive 6 cars but they have a history in the past of updating idrive, F15 had a massive update in late 2016 to include touchscreen and wireless CarPlay (not sure if that was 5 or 6?)

7.0 appears to use different display areas and differently-shaped "3D" trim around the virtual dials. I'd be amazed if BMW backported 7.0 to use a different (read: obsolete) dash display. Now, if the displays were identical, maybe, but they're not.

I'm betting that we'll never see it on 2018/2019 X3's. I'd love to be wrong, though.

I thought the centre screen is just the idrive part?, the virtual dash dials on G05 are optional in most models so don't think they would be required, standard spec seems to be analogue dials

I agree they will likely update the software at some point, and probably put the new gauge cluster in the existing space, but I have never seen them change (upgrade) the central display screen physically (size, position, add touch capability etc). The only time I've seen an update to the screen is when an entirely new model comes out eg F25 to G01

No. Definitely not upgradable via a simple update - coding required. It was a mid cycle update and not LCI related. Some managed to get it updated/patched from 5.0 to a 6.0 LITE version (still 5.0, but with the 6.0 looks).

Bmw can choose to update the entertainment/idrive module anytime within the same model cycle.

I updated the idrive in my f15 from 5 to 6 lite, works and functions just like a regular 6 version
