E92 pre-lci tail lamp LED - how is it powered?
Mine has gone out and reading a few threads here it appears those LEDs are built in and cannot be replaced without pulling the tail apart.
My question though.. is it the black electrical unit (that has the bulbs) that powers the LED? I dont see anything on the black unit that has contact points that connect within the unit itself? Reason I ask - I bought a replacement tail lamp -- I'm thinking I could just connect it to my existing black bulb unit to confirm it all works before I pull the tail lamp out of the car. What do you guys think? Last edited by Ants; 06-08-2018 at 01:33 PM.. |

You're better off just swapping the tail lamp assembly with the replacement you got and be done with it.

Hi, afraid I don't understand your question (I'm not sure what the black electric unit is that you mention?)
For info - you can test pre-LCI LED lights (on or off the car) without dismantling the light, just connect a 9volt PP3 battery to the brown & blue wires that run from the LEDs to the wiring connector on the light. Photos here show which wires to use http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1441049 You can't damage the LEDs with a 9v battery, but if it doesn't work reverse the connections (polarity) and retry. If you still get no light, assume your LEDs have failed, and buy another light or try to fix yours.
