Big gap between the roof and the trim. Is this normal?

Hi,
I just bought my first BMW (E90 Sedan), and I noticed something. The gap between the trim (above the door) and the roof is pretty big:

Is this normal?

Man, you've got some weird looking fingers. Couldn't tell if it was a finger or a toe. Perhaps a toe shaped finger?
