The article is a little bipolar... it’s as if they’re TRYING to knock the M40i for having a comfort side as well as a sporty side when that’s the sole motivation for this particular model in the first place. Quite frankly, I don’t get the point of the review... people looking at this model are doing so for the very reason the article knocks the car.

I thought that too. They complain that it's quiet when in Comfort, and say it only sounds louder when in Sport, which is entirely the point.

At the end of the day it's not a JLR product so Autocar will always damn with faint praise. Had it had an F-Type badge on the back it would have been crowned as the next messiah.

OK review, seems a bit short unless a longer review is in magazine? Also seems to mislead that it implies adaptive dampers are standard

Seems like the old top gear trick of 10 or more years ago starting off with bad points only to go on and say how brilliant it is but doesn't work in print very well, the comfort/adaptive modes are more than good enough for my needs on this car, probably would have even settled for lower power if available, I just wanted the 3 litre petrol engine
