Can someone confirm that they do get album art with fm radio with hd reception enabled. My cars in past had it and I just noticed today that my album art would never populate no matter what station I had tuned to. I’m pretty sure I should get album art on fm.

In MY2014 BMW introduced HD Album Artwork.

Note: the station must broadcast it. not all do.

In MY2016 BMW introduced SiriusXM Album Artwork.

Are the stations that used to show the album art not showing anymore? Like r3t1cal said, it will only show up if the station is broadcasting it. Some stations here don't and instead broadcast a logo of their station. Unfortunately I don't have my X3 to test it more since I don't listen to HD radio that much, but I'll look out for it when I get my car back.

I’m not 100% certain. That’s why I was asking. I know in my 428i I get album art over fm radio. I also got album art over fm hd in my x1. I think I had it a few days ago in my x3 but I don’t listen to fm radio most of the time.

How do you enable HD radio? I was looking for those stations the other day and didn't see them.
In my truck it is simple as turning the knob one click past the base station.

When you are on a station, just hit the option button on idrive controller. Then scroll down and check hd reception.

I’m in a 530i loaner today and it doesn’t have album art for fm either so maybe they did away with the feature. Seems like a step backwards to remove a feature.

You did but you are in Canada. I should have been more clear to ask about those in the U.S. market. Some markets have different features. I do appreciate you sharing though.

I don't think they would remove a feature if it already has this capability.

One thing to look for is the Station Logo - the image you posted showed that the station is not broadcasting a station logo, and BMW is displaying a generic "Pop" genre graphics. If the HD station is not displaying a station logo, it will not have album art.

So search through the HD stations to find one which has station logo graphics first, then you can check if it would also broadcast the album art.
Album art may only show if you tune into the station before the song starts or at the beginning of the song.

I checked about 8 different stations that I know had album art previously. You are correct, the station art nor the album art never populated on any of those stations.

Btw, my 2014 3 series had xm radio art. When I traded in for the 2016 x1, it did not. So BMW is not above removing features. I’m hoping this is a fluke and the dealer will get it working but I’m waiting to hear back from them.

I have album art showing on HD Radio on our X3. It works on several stations; occassionally, a station will not have the album art for a song (like a new song on a Top 40 station), so they will broadcast their station art in the same space.

Can you replicate the issue on another car you have that has HD Radio?

The problem with replication is that my 2016 was running a stripped down version of NBT2. My 2016 428 is running the professional version of NBT2. So the only direct comparison I have now is the 530i loaner I was given today which did not given album or station art. I’ll drive it again tomorrow and see if it ever populates.

So I sat in my convertible today and confirmed that station art and album art was still being broadcast for a number of stations in my city. It’s not a fair comparison because my 2016 428i uses the NBT2 system instead of IDrive 6.0. It does make me wonder me if there is something wrong with my car or if the feature has been removed from idrive 6.0. I never could it to come up in my loaner.

I've noticed that SiriusXM also usually shows the album art.
