HELP! Leather color choice - driving us nuts!
Hi guys! My first post here, glad to be joining the club! We finally placed an order for a new X3 yesterday afternoon!
I decided to custom order so we could get the 20” (Style 695) wheels rather than the 19’s with all-season tires that most dealers seem to have in stock. We will be putting on a dedicated set of winters anyway, so I’d rather get the beefier summer setup at no extra cost. We ordered an xDrive 30i with Ultimate package (Canada) Another consideration to custom order was that we could get the exact color combination we wanted. Now this is where we hit a slight snag. I liked the dark graphite metallic, my wife prefers slightly more boring sapphire black (she won). We both liked the matte look of the cove wood, so that was easy. Now the problem: the Vernasca leather - she liked the cognac that they had in a 6-series GT on the showroom floor, but that is different leather and we could not see a G01 equipped with cognac. Black is a bit boring, and beige might not be ideal with small children/carseats... we ordered the cognac, but after we got home we saw several pictures where the seats just looked like a bright orange, rather than the rich color we saw in the GT. Kind of like Sunkist, rather than Glenfiddich... so now we are utterly puzzled and afraid we might not like it when we get it. I’m sure we can change our spec still in the next week or two, but I would love to see some of your real world pics (without heavy dealer editing/HDR) of G01 Vernasca leather interiors. Is the Cognac really that Sunkist orange? Should we switch to beige? Or safe black, maybe with the blue contrast stitch? Please help! |

I do t have a picture to share but the cognac leather is not as orange as it appears in pictures. It was the color I was originally going to order and should look great with the sapphire black. Btw, I use to own a 3 series in sapphire black with saddle interior which is very close to what is now called cognac.

The cognac is not orange.. a lot of pictures are way over saturated and look bad.
It’s a really nice contrasting color for interior. |

Cognac looks beautiful especially when paired with phytonic blue or carbon black.
I almost got Congnac as well, but ended up with black because it does a better job of hiding discolouration from jeans, etc |

https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1430718 The color of Cognac in those shots are pretty accurate. However that being said, the type of device your using to view the image can change how orange it looks dramatically. If you've seen saddle brown it's very close to that. If you do a google image search for: "cognac bmw x3" you'll see how widely different the color can look due to photography methods. It does not look like the orange you see in a photo like this: https://mediapool.bmwgroup.com/cache...-06-2250px.jpg I have a phytonic blue with cognac in the works. I've seen it in person and it's IMO stunningly beautiful. |

Not to confuse you further...so here goes! I like the cognac leather for one reason - it's different and looks great. I don't like the cognac leather for one reason - it's different but not sure I wanted it forever.
I live in Houston and have gone with black leather the past few cars and love it for a couple of reasons. 1. Black will always be around and will always look classy and rich. 2.. Black is easy to keep clean (spill all the coffee you want to on it). Black looks good with any exterior color. My past cars have been either jet black or black sapphire. This time I went with the dark graphite and black interior. You'll be happy with the cognac if you like the look of it - I'm low risk conservative guy and not sure I would like it long term. |

Thanks for that. I had seen that thread, but the images in it are from the configurator and are computer generated, which isn't as reliable as an (unaltered) photo.
You nailed it with that orange look in the marketing photo of the blue car through the trunk. That is unflattering at best. If it actually has that color I should phone in a build change. What I mean by the cheap Sunkist look is: View post on imgur.com The nice, "Glenfiddich look" is: View post on imgur.com |

If you saw cognac on the showroom floor, that's the same color, even if it wasn't Vernasca leather.

I've seen Cognac in person and it looks great. I decided on Mocha as it's a bit darker. Black is good too. Beige is just way too light for me. Keep Cognac or consider Mocha.

here's a pic of cognac in my Carbon black M40i. The color has been polarizing...my kids hate it but most adults like it. my daughter described it as pumpkin, which is actually very accurate - it's pumpkin orange. I personally like the contrast w CB and would choose it again. beige is so boring and i prefer contrast so black wasn't an option. no discoloration issue from jeans w cognac.

I really like Mocha - from what I can tell it pairs well with all exterior options.

If I didn’t have two young kids and two big dogs I would 100% get oyster! Carbon black and oyster looks awesome! As it sits, I’ve ordered carbon black and black with blue stitching.

Hey Amsterdave, cognac is a nice color and vernasca is a step better than Dakota, but have you considered Tartufo merino individual? you'll love the color and the smoothness of merino, for 1500$ it's worth it specially if you're keeping the car for a while. Check it out in the configurator and pay attention to the stitching.

We have the Cognac/fineline cove matte/alpine white and I love it, but I'm not a Black interior person at all. The only color that would have been better is that Tartuffo in Merino.
