External Side Mirrors NOT unfolding....

Went to unlock the car today and the external side mirrors did not unfold.

Tried locking/unlocking a few times and they still remain shut, any ideas?

When working, they auto close/open when unlocking/locking.

Not good for a new car...

Any ideas?

There is the button on the door than manually folds and unfolds them.

They should auto unfold at 20km/h.... I think. Not certain on that.

The setting to have them fold and unfold on power on and power off is in vehicle settings

M40i Guy,

I have it set to auto fold in the vehicle settings already to unfold when unlocking and fold when locking - both normally work fine from using the remote.

I'm saying they stopped working altogether today.

Doesn't show any faults, so no idea whats happened.
Even the motor isn't sounding when you lock/unlock from the remote today.

If you manually fold them in using the button before you lock your car, then they will not auto-fold out when you come back. In order for the auto-fold to work, you must keep the mirrors folded out when locking your car (which then it will auto fold them in).

I have a feeling that this is not your issue and perhaps you have a bigger issue since it seems like you've tried different solutions. I thought I'd just mention it anyway.

Same issue (among others) on my wife's. Mirrors intermittently refuse to unstow either manually or auto. Dealer no help. Passenger door also likes to pop unlocked at odd times (always with a passenger). Long list of gremlins on '18 X3 that did not happen on'17 X1

Reviving an old thread, as I started to have issues with passenger side mirror. I lock the car with the fob, mirror are folded, as they should. When I return after some time, and unlock, get in and start moving, I notice that the mirror is still folded. I stop and use the manual switch on the door to fold both in, a unfold again - in which case both mirrors unfold no problem. This happed maybe 4 times during last month.

I don't think that somebody is messing with the mirror, as it happened in different places. I think it started after I washed the car, the same way as usually - but really not sure. Maybe just a coincidence.

Any ideas? The car is MY18, so out of warranty for 2 months now unfortunately.

Since it’s so close out of warranty, you could ask the dealer to do a good will repair. Often they will.

Personally I would never want my mirrors to fold or unfold automatically. I can't imagine how long the little mirror servo motors or gearing would last IF I set them to fold and unfold EVERY TIME I start and turn off the car. Nor, can I imagine what the replacement costs for that feature would be!

I see no reason to set them to fold & unfold automatically unless you always park in tight quarters all the time. LOL....I try to park AWAY from other cars whenever possible and only fold the mirrors when needed.....but each to their own.

Had this feature on a 5 series that I used for business over 10 years. Fold/unfold numerous time per day, and never had any issues on this, or any other car I’ve owned with this feature.

My soon to be former Range Rover Evoque is about 8 years old and it folds/unfolds everytime it locks/unlocks and not an issue for me.

Found the problem. Can't believe, that this was causing it. Removed it, and for the last 2 weeks had no problem
