Driving Assistance and Plus Package Removed?

Hi all,

I recently put in a custom order for a 2018 M40i and just now noticed that my build per the site did not have the following:

Active Blind Spot Detection
Active Driving Assistant Plus
Lane Departure Warning

...instead, the option I was able to select was the Active Cruise Control. I remember the original built I put together 2 months ago had the options above and ACC was part of Driving Assistance Package. Now my question is, did BMW stop offering those options altogether or are they now all part of the ACC? The ACC description on the site does not mention those 3 options and as a matter of fact, it's not mentioned at all anywhere from the custom build site. No one from the dealership can answer and they are looking into it...

Supposedly there is a parts shortage on something that goes into the driving assistance packages. Thankfully, I already planned on building my M40i without both packages as I find that I never use any of that stuff anyhow. Everything else is a check, for me.

I ordered on 5/7 and was told by the dealership they couldn’t put the order in the system with the driving assistant/plus packages and reached out to the factory. Within a week they were able to get it ordered.

My salesperson got back to me today and he confirmed there is a parts shortage. Apparently, you can still order it but you have to ask for it specifically and it's not something you can add yourself on the site. I was under the impression that the ACC had Driving Assistance since originally Driving Assistance came with ACC.

I got both packages for the safety aspect: blind spot detection and front and rear cross traffic alert. I didn't think I'd use the active cruise control, but it's really quite nice; I got stuck in a lot of traffic taking the car home, and it was very impressive (I've never had ACC before).

Yeah like others have said and in the other posts, your dealer can still order these two packages you just can't build it on your specs online (it is dumb BMW did that, they should allow you to add those packages just put a disclaimer in about the shortage).

In my case it just took the dealer a day to work out the order w/ the factory.

Any idea which parts are missing and if there's a possibility of doing a retro-fit?

No one knows. If I had to make a wild-ass guess, I'd say it's one or more of:
  • Cameras/housing next to the interior rearview mirror.

  • Side radar sensors/mountings.

  • Ultrasonic sensor mountings.
Whatever the case, enabling everything would almost certainly require black-magic levels of coding.

Hello

I am trying to order a X3 M40i with the Driving Assistance and Plus Package, but am told by the dealer about the parts shortage.

My dealer says he will have to wait until mid July to place the order. How are you getting your dealers to place the order through the factory????

Thanks in advance!!

It sounds like not all the dealers want to do it for some reason. I faced no resistance from the dealership I ended up going with. It just took an extra 48 hours to get it done. I think they had to call for an override.

I'd shop around...see who wants your deposit and business the most.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the number of productions spots each dealer has?

Yes, exactly what r3t1cal said all it takes is an override. The only reason it took my dealer 2 days is because it was over a weekend. They didn't find it difficult at all. Not sure about the allocations though, if that's the case mine must have had one sitting there to grab.

My dealer is in the process of getting the override on my order. They placed the call today and it should hopefully be completed tomorrow. Then I’ll finally have a buildsheet to sign off on and the wait can begin. Supposedly, I should have my M40i towards the end of July. Can’t wait!

Congrats! During my usual ritual of checking the build tracker every morning I saw the tracker now shows the correct color combination. I got way to excited thinking the build might have started early but sadly I'm still only on step 1...none the less I was happy to see progress!

Yeah, I talked to my CA again, he said he changed the order to priority 1 and it still would not let him add the packages.... I can't help but wonder if he knows how to do an override... Uggghhhh...
