UK Road Tax Changed on My X3

Hi Guys,

My dealer contacted me and told me that the first year's road tax changed from £200 to £500 and I need to pay for the difference. I signed the deal at the end of March and the road tax changes kicked in in April. Do i really need to pay for the difference like my dealer said? I would appreciate that if someone could help me with this.

Which engine have you gone for?

I would stick with the, "that's the deal I signed for, that's what I'm paying!".

Similar situation happened to me with my M40i. Was £500 on order sheet but should have been £800 and dealer only realised at last minute. They somehow managed to rejig the deal so my monthlies are the same and the GFV is slightly higher. Can’t complain really.

That's one I am talking about. the first year's road tax for xline or m sport before april was £200 and then gone up to £500 in april 2018. I didnt change the xline to m sport I then wont pay the extra.

Don't know if you got to the bottom of it but it was a government change from 1st April 2018, Diesel engines that don't comply to the new euro 6 real world tests jump up one band for the 1st year VED, which I think is what you are now seeing, it's not just BMW, apparently no diesel car yet complies

This article probably explains it better https://www.whatcar.com/advice/buyin...-need-to-know/
