Just took delivery of my X3 M40i today, badges were in their usual position below the spoiler lip. I think they look better there. Car was built in March.

old news for X3, I was unaware they moved the badge on the F48 X1 as well. X1's aren't built in SC - that rules out my theory about a new hire at the plant who is very short.
I look at it this way for those of us with early badge G01's - assuming the badge stays in the new lower position, you will always be able to identify 2018's built in the first 5-6 months from all newer G01's. our early adopter badge...or something like that. except those of you who debadge of course. did they move other X's as well? The X2 started down there, and this seem to happen right as G02 X4 production should be getting started.

I will repeat what I said in the other thread - that I don't like it. Could be because I'm not used to it, but I keep thinking of Audi with that low placement. I guess they aren't going to stop at X3 and X1... I don't see why they aren't going to just do this for all the X models. Otherwise, it's just going to look stupid for some models on top and others on the bottom.
What I don't get is that why this is a mid year change? They couldn't wait until 2019 production? It's just a bit weird to just change things up mid stream. |

If you can save 25 cents per car by only having to use one "XDRIVE" badge why wait. Lol

Hum. It's definitely an interesting change. Historically the badges have been above the tail lights and on the doors. Here are a couple pics of my X3 and retired X1. I guess the doors will look cleaner without the badges but I like the old placement of the model above the tail light in the back.

Just picked mine up from the PCD today. Badges on the bottom. It actually looks pretty good. But I still de-badged mine.

I'm scheduled to be built in a couple of weeks - does it make sense to change the production order - or just have the dealer remove the badging from the new lame position?

Why on earth would it matter where they've applied the badges? My concerns would be more around performance, reliability etc...but not where a badge was located. My wife's new X1 has the badges below the tail lights. Looks fine to me.
And I expect my pending new X3m40 will be the same as well.

Maybe M40i's get the traditional location and the 30i's get the new location? Definitely prefer the traditional location. Weird that BMW would change the location and also not make it consistent across the X3 range.

The new badge placement is (IMO) looks cheap and crappy - much like a Toyota and numerous US brands. BMW & Mercedes have typically placed the badging above the tail lights. Being old and a BMW purist, I like tradition. I'm also detail-oriented and perhaps a bit OCD.
Perhaps its because the prototypes of the G05 don't seem to have room above the tail lights for badging. If that's the case, I'll do that same w/ my G05, which I plan on buying when they go into production. Quote:
