No CD in player F32

Hello. I recently purchased a 2014 435IX M Sport and after 2 wks of ownership the CD player stopped recognizing discs. After reading the owners manual I see that using the mobile phone that is connected to the vehicle on the phone's keypad can cause a malfunction.(pg 80 communication) I did answer the phone by hand (not w/ Bluetooth) while I was saving a cd to the hard drive when the malfunction occurred. Everything else seems to be working normally. Is there a recognised reset procedure for this kind of issue? BMW wants $190 just for diagnostics. Thanks.

I've the same car (same spec). Just checked the manual and you're right about the warning, although the wording is curious. So when you were in your car, your phone rang, but did it ring through the speakers (as designed)? If it did, I'm reading that all you've done is use the phone, instead of the car, to answer it and now your CD player is potentially bricked. If so, wow. Not sure I like that.

The manual is a bit vague re: the warning. Does it mean you can't use the phone (itself) at all when it is connected? And does 'connected' mean Bluetooth as well as via USB? I don't think I've ever actually answered my phone physically when I've been in the car and the phone is already connected (hardwired or bluetooth) so this is puzzling. I've answer it lots while connected and changed the audio source (as I'm getting out of the car).

The other mystery is why it would cause you CD player to stop working.

Sorry, no help from me - just finding this rather curious. Watching with interest, and hoping you can reset somehow, as you say.

When I first picked up the car I had to discover the hard way about auto start/stop feature while in Toronto traffic. So yeah, I read the manual. lol
Anyway, yes the manual is vague regarding the use of a connected phone.

I meant in reference to the NBT.

Shocked that no one has mentioned you can brick the CD so easily in 5 years as clearly you are the first user to read the entire manual.

Shocked as hell that A) this is even in the manual and B) a CD player can be borked by something so silly. I confess, I might have skimmed though the manual but this is news to me and it's right there in black and white!

I disconnected the battery for about an hour and then re connected it. I heard this can reset some electronics. It didn't fix it.

I suppose I should give GM/Cadillac credit for offering one as an option these days but then again, mine was in the glove box tucked away and was rendered useless from day one. (was a no charge option at the time)

Absolutely agree. No one buys CDs anymore and I can't tell you the last time that I did! Probably late 90s...

Point taken about cds being obsolete. I'm just anal about things working. Time to let it go and load up my thumb drive.
