A Pillar Pass Side

good afternoon, is it OK and Safe to route a dash cam cable thru the upper joint of the A Pillar above the airbag tag? will it in anyway damage the panel, airbag or anything behind it, etc. if I stuff in the cable at that spot in the crease? thanks.

Pic attached to clarify what I am referring to...

Does anyone know if its safe to tuck wires from dash cam in to the crease in the A Pillar as shown above in the picture? I am concerned that if I put cables in there; will it effect airbag deployment or anything else. Thanks

I've had my wires tucked that way for three years now. No issues.

As an extra question, how do you remove the pillar cover, please?

I didn't need to remove mine when I was hard wiring my radar detector. Instead I pulled back the door weatherstripping, ran the wire across the top of the A pillar trim and down the side along the door and then pushed the weather stripping back into place.

Thanks, sewhelan9, I was looking at installing a DAB area so could really do with some advice, tried to pull it off(!) but it felt like it was going to snap.

I didn't pull it off as it was not required. I just used a trim tool to lift the trim slightly (fingers would work too) and wedge the wire in slowly. Unless the wire is massive, I don't see a problem with just slipping it in. If you don't have a trim tool, I think it's easier to start at the door seal/weather trim, just pull the door trim out enough so you have space to work and lift the bottom piece of the A pillar a bit while pushing in the top slightly. There is a very tight spot close to the middle but it will go through as it is not interlocked there.

  1. remove the sealing in the area of the cover
  2. pull the cover at the upper end from the pillar, until you hear a crackle
  3. pull the cover upwards. It is fixed with its bottom part in the Dashboard by two pins
At the upper part there is a metal-clip, that should be replaced
In the middle part there is a plastic-clip

I'm after doing the same and I'm sure I read that the airbag is in the form or a curtain from the B pillar and not in the A pillar. I'm new to the car so I'd check to be 100%

My dash cam is tucked in there, I used a trim tool to poke it into the crease. It didn't seem to cause any issues and the pillar still sits as it is supposed to
