G20 3 Series renders

Seeing the renders of the G20 3 series on G20Post has got me a bit worried, what on earth are those notches on the bottom edge of the headlights about!? Looking at the camouflaged prototype car it appears they are there, but surely they won’t be on the production car!

Rear looks good though:

Yeah, exhausts look shite. Why does every manufacturer have to do exactly the same thing.

Don't mind the headlight notches. Always disliked the F30 front end since it was launched and it took the better resolved F32 for me to come to terms with the theme. Hopefully, the real G20 will look ok from launch.

ETA - those huge grilles look ridiculous!

That has me quite concerned as the front doesn't look very nice to my eyes, and it does look like being quite accurate.

The grilles seem oversized and there's a lack of dynamic elegance that there usually is.

overall good, will take time to get used to the headlights notches.

I really hope they improve cabin noise on this one.

okay that rear is gorgeous!! I just wish they got a bit more creative with the taillights, the f3x LCI's are beautiful. besides that, everything flows not too bad, except I don't know if it's just me but why does it look like the side body line ends halfway? just for rendering purposes?

other than the new BMW theme of
gi-effin-normous kidneys, looks quite sharp to me.

Good spot on the swage line! There is a swage line that goes all the way from front to back, then as you say another one just below that stops at the front door handle! Strange!

yes BMW is starting to throw some real curveballs in their design language; the huge grilles are expected, but that swage line & the headlight notches look odd.

Front proportions strike me as off - centre lower intake isn't large enough for the grilles, side intakes too large vs narrow lights, lights don't taper down to grilles, grilles too big
Rear is very generic - a bit of Audi, a bit of Lexus
I'd probably still buy one though in a few years time... when they bring out the LCI

To me, that view from the rear down the nearside flank also looks like a Merc C/E Class (as do the exhausts) but I agree the rear lights are very Lexus.
Much prefer the looks of the current F30/F31 which is fine as I'll have mine for a few years yet.

Not too sure about those wheels, be interesting to see if they make production. Remind me of the old 172M wheels on the E60 5 Series, which suited that car mind.

Trouble is these renders are often wide of the mark when the final car is revealed - it may bare a similarity to the final car but its amazing how little tweaks here and there (like the swage lines mentioned) make a huge difference to how the design flows around the car.

This seems to be a trend in car design these days, started by Mercedes and if you look closely at the new Audi A6 it seems to have about 3 swage lines that start or end part way along the body.

I mainly hoping they've got the headlight notch wrong! Hopefully it's just something like a washer rather than part of the bumper!

This is someone’s fantasy extrapolating off test mules and other models etc.
I wouldn’t read much into it.

As per swage lines on side, a few other brands do that.
The author of this render just did that so it looked ‘new’

E46 had notches in headlights.

Also expect this to be an SE type e model.
The F30 looked really turd at first. Only with the M sport pack did it look at all appealing imo.

I’ve just noticed where they got the headlight notch from, it’s copied from all of Peugoet’s current SUV’s!

Haha

To be honest I'll still buy one no matter what it looks like, I'm really excited to get some of the new technology available on the G generation.
