Two funny quotes I made up to explain the difference between M3 and C63. Agree?

Here's two funny quotes I made up to explain the difference between the M3 and C63. See if you agree.

"BMW spent too much time and money on making the M3 balanced and forgot that they have too little power and torque for its generation." (Especially after the new RS4 comes out (I'm guessing around 2012), pretty sure it's going to have 450+hp.)

"Merc spent too much time and money on the big engin and torque, but forgot that the car can't handel the big power on turns."

So if you want a car that the company spent their time and money on turns then go for the M3, but if you want a car that the company spent their time and money on power then C63. I might actually choose power. You?

I've only recently decided that an E92 will be my next car, and until now I'd been more than happy just strolling through the forums reading up on what I'm hoping to be parking in my garage.

I went ahead and registered with the site just to respond with a nice "WTF?"

Funny? No. Fun? No, not really. Fact, at least? Nope!

The two cars are completely different beasts. Still, they're going to get you from point A to point B in just about the same amount of time, you'll just have lost and made up time in different places. Watch the Top Gear episode comparing the two (and the RS4) and you'll here some quotes worth repeating.

funny? well dont give up ypur day job.

I like the balanced package = BMW always gives a chassis that can handle the power.

The 2009 performance pack with LSD should help the C63 gets its power down.

If you want a coupe get the M3.

If you need a four door people mover, get the C63.

I think the 6.2 liter AMG powerplant is one of best production V8's produced. It fits so well, in so many types of vehicles.

Perfect car, M3 chassis with C63 poweplant.

My guess is 2010-2020

Think they'll base it off the new FI engines they are planning for the S4?

Sorry, I don't see what's the big deal with the C63 AMG 6.2L V8 engine. Even a regular 6L V12 engine in the 760iL produces 445hp and 600Nm of torque without breaking a sweat, yet being more fuel efficient.

I think the claim to fame is that the 6.2 liter Merc V8 is approximately similar in overall size to the 4 liter M3 powerplant, weighs about the same, and of course makes a good deal more power and torque, even when detuned for use in the C63. Users and reviewers unanimously describe it as ferocious, a beast, makes power everywhere, etc.

Users and reviewers also wax poetic about the M3's engine as well, but mention its low rpm softness. Defenders of The Faith remark that its easy to drive through/around that soft spot (and I personally agree with this), but you don't have to bother with anything like that with the Merc.

Thus, if the Merc engine were installed in the M3, the car would weigh about the same, handle about the same, probably get similar mileage with less aggressive final drive gearing appropriate to its rev range, and of course be a bunch faster.

Wow, really agree with you. Especially the part about BMW will have the same handeling if it gets Merc's engin. Something that almost everyone doesn't realize is that the reason why the Merc can't handel as well as the M3 is because it's got a bigger engin, so it's harder to handel than the M! I would like to see M3's handeling if they have as much power and torque as the C63. If they can do it, I am guessing the car will cost more than 70,000 because of the upgrades. Just my opinions of course.

Also, I think the basic 3-series is designed with different characteristics in mind than the C-class is. The 3, even in its least potent form, is still designed to be a driver's car at heart. The C, on the other hand, is a Mercedes. It's an Icon, and generally serves the purposes of getting from A to B comfortably, and with with a slight feeling of cockiness. So, while both the C63 and the M3 have been pushed to their limits, the 3 has the advantage in that the "base" model is still a great handler, where as the Merc has had to work from a so-so performer. They couldn't change the chassis (much). The engine makes a difference, but so does the basic design they had to start with.

Also, the C63 makes me like an idiot, even though I'd rather have the M3. Kind of like I'd love to have a pet tiger, until it eats me, so I opt for a puppy instead.

Not funny, but i you got it right on the money and i totally agree with you. Especially if you're not planning to track your car anyway which most people really don't anyway. For everyday car i would prefer the C63 and i would have more use of it's power. And personally, i prefer the C63's look over the e90 M3.

I agree that the bimmer would have to be sold at a higher price with the Merc powerplant. As I understand it, Mercedes gets about $56K over the counter for that engine, so at a guess its alloys, components, etc are fairly special - leading to some of those interesting specs in regard to size and weight.

They can stuff it in the C63 and still sell the car at an aggressive price because they can amortize its cost amongst the other AMG 63 models.
