Winter Rims and Tires

Hey Guys,

Have a 2017 X1 xDrive that has 19" Run Flats on it right now. We live in Toronto canada and I am starting to price out some winter tires and rims.

I was hoping to just get some standard steel 17 or 18 inch wheels with winter tires but I seem to be unable to find any. Most sites I go to (canadian tire, 1010, etc) only list 18 or 19 inch alloy wheels.

What do I need to know to get steel rims and can I run a 17inch winter tire and a 19inch summer tire without issue?

Thank you in advance

Phad.

BMW doesn't offer a steel wheel for the X1 in North America. But BMW offers a 17x7.5 alloy wheel with a 225/55r17 snow tire mounted on it. You check tirerack for options?

I would recommend 18" alloys that are the same width and offset as your 19" wheels. If you get a good quality winter tire with a relatively high speed rating, you will get the winter traction that you need without giving up handling and stability on the highway.

Try 1010tires.com.

I put 18" steel wheels on my fiancé's X1. Got the wheels from Kal-tire. I think I spent like $100 per wheel plus tax.
Maybe the have a 17" option as well!

bump.

Picking up an X1 shortly with the 19" wheel option. The A/S run-flats for southern Sask winters will be a hard no. Any other options besides those listed in this thread?

In terms of tires I was super happy with michelin x-ice last winter - perfect amount of grip and comfort for long rides. On 17" rims from Kipling tire they were a nice black and improved the x1 ride comfort immensely with the extra rubber vs. the 18" run flats.
