Hey guys,

I got a warning that my DEF active tank wasn't holding the right amount of pressure. I took it in to the dealership and they lifted it up and found out that the passive tank was smashed while hitting a pothole a couple months ago. Now two days ago my 1000 mile warning popped up and the dealership said my car will stop running afterwards.

Is there any way to code this via esys or ISTA without replacing the part right now? The procedure is relatively easy and I can do the repair myself, but in Michigan its not warm enough yet and I don't have a garage at all. I just need to get rid of the warnings and ignore the sensor until it gets warm enough to repair it. The dealership wants $450 in labor for a simple procedure.

Thanks!

No. It's against federal law to disable emissions system so BMW won't provide the ability to code it out. When you run out of DEF the car will not start. Can you fill the active tank seperately?

I'll reply here rather than in diesel subforum since you already got an answer...

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=16_0914

If you look at the diagram, you need to plug the line #5 so that you can then fill only the active tank. The active tank is on the right IIRC, behind the rear wheel, passive tank on left.

Not sure what the price for the passive tank is - probably $400-$500 range.

I am aware of the part and even the procedures on how to install it. I used ISTA to find out how difficult it is. I had said above that I just need to hold off until warmer weather. I will play around on ISTA on esys and see what I can figure out. I know there is a way because people do dpf deletes. The takes out the SCR system, DPF, etc... and is coded so the computer doesn't throw codes. I just don't know if ICOM is needed for it.

DPF/EGR/SCR (also known as "Alphabet" deletes are done with a tune (flash). You can't do that with ISTA, or any other type of "coding" done with OBD readers. Until recently, the DDE (ECU) had to be removed and bench-flashed.

There is more info in the E90 and F30 diesel forums. Look for AARodriguez posts.

Don't run an emussions delete tune with your emissions equipment installed. Besides the tune will set you back some $$. Just find a friend who has a garage they'll let you use.

Yeah if I do a tune it's going to be with a full dpf delete.
