e90 alarm
So I was tlaking to my dealer and I was surprised to learn that the e90 does not have an alarm system built in....35K car with no alarm!?!?
so if some guy breaks one of my windows there is no horn and flashing lights etc.?? is there no standard security thing in the e90? |

The alarm retails for $300 in the US. I got mine for less from Circle BMW.
All US cars are pre-wired for the alarm. The instructions state 1.5 hours labor to install, so don't let the dealer ream you for this. I plan to install mine today or tomorrow and I will take lots of pics to show everyone... |

I also heard this about the fuel getting shut off, but after the alarm is armed. I heard the motion sensor is there, but it doen't have to be triggered for the fuel line to be shut off (I'm not sure which is true). I had my alarm installed about two weeks ago and I'm definitely glad I did. It was probably the best investment so far, as far as add-ons and accessories go. I'd definitely recommend the alarm.

Do you have the car already?? Not sure if you mean adding to an order..or adding after you already have the car. If you already have the car...then like anything done at the dealer, he is making a profit off you. 1. Tischer sells OEM alarm for $275 or so shipped. 2. There is a DIY on here to get it installed. (*free*) 3. You still have to have dealer reprogram your car to *activate* the alarm. But this is usually only $200-300 depending on your dealer. Some people have been able to get this for less or even free when other things have been updated for other reasons. So, if you want to do it on your own...you should be able to do the whole thing for $450-$575 range. If you want them to do it all....then you are basically giving them an extra $250 for the installation.

That's way expensive. I was lazy and just told my dealer to give me the best deal he can - $543.50 out-the-door.

It'll take you 1 hour or so at most, with simple hand tools.

Yeah, I agree it's still expensive to some. However, I don't have space where I live now, where I can work on cars. The building mgmt is kinda mean (I'm actually looking to move out!). Having it installed by the dealer and warrantied, etc was worth the extra to me.

1WickedE90 can you PM me the dealer name so I can tell mine to "match" the price? Thanks to all for your responses. Don't most dealerships give 20% discounts for BMW Car Club members? I think the alarm is worth $500 to have it installed and warranted by dealer but not $700+

The alarm is a dealer installed accessory and isn't available from the factory.
