M240i vanos issue

Has anyone had issue with the vanos unit in their b58 engine? I've done about 3000 miles on my 240i when the engine warning light came on. Dealer says it's an issue with the vanos system and will have to look in detail to find the exact problem!

Repairing the mechanical portions of the VANOS system on the B58 is an engine-out procedure now thanks to BMW putting the timing chain on the rear of the motor rather than on the front.

yup, thats y its taking so long. They have to take out the engine, change the part, put everything back and see if thats fixed the issue. They are having to do this multiple times to find the issue.

Do you have any aftermarket software installed? Dinan, et al... I had a CEL thrown, but they haven't been able to figure it out. They didn't say VANOS, but "think" it's related to my DINAN stage 1 unit.

interested to hear the results. those vanos units would be a pain I think to replace. haven't seen any problems with them yet here.

Just checking in with this...
I don't see much of this on any forums with the B58, yes?
