Speedvision on the IS-F.

Just saw the episode about the Lexus IS-F today. Sounds great. One thing I learned was that the transmission disconnects the torque converter when going into manual shifting mode. Sounds cool.

This show was a better episode than the one they had with the M3 that had the four drivers racing against each other. Much more information about the IS-F here than they had about the M3.

Cheers.

I just saw the new Ford Focus. It has the same wierd fender vent as the IS-F. Hey I guess F stands for Focus too!

After the Motor Trend comparo, where the IS-F got beat by 4.4 seconds around the test track by the M3. I really could care less about the IS-F. I thought it was ugly from the beginning, the IS350 looks way better. But now that everyone knows how inferior the car is, who cares.

lol, my buddy has one and I must say it is one of the worst looking cars I've seen in the last few years.

I agree the IS350 looks much better. Too much fakery on the ISF body.

I saw the same white ISF in my neighborhood twice, it didnt stand out from the traffic unless you are really very close then you'll see the difference. I hate the styling, the snubby downward hood front and the rear tail lights were obnoxious

I have not seen an ISF anywhere in the DC Metro area, except on a dealer lot, says something about sales. The public has also spoken.

I agree, much more informative then the M3 episode..I was also impressed with the the disconnection of the torque converter. The m3 episode was horrible IMHO.

I've seen about three IS-F's in my area. Not particularly impressed.

Despite some of the styling which can often times be subjective to a person's taste, the on road performance is phenomenal (on road use). I love mine and the way it performs.

The Ferrari California has the same style exhaust finishers as the IS-F. I guess F stands for Ferrari too.

To be fair ngl1145 you are on a m3 forum. So it's no surprise that you get this kind of criticism. No doubt IS-F IS A NICE CAR but it's unfortunate Lexus went overboard with the fake vents and exhaust.

I agree this is an M3 forum and that criticism will be stronger here. I checked out some videos on the M division on racingflix.com and it makes me want to get an M. If you haven't seen it it's pretty neat.

As for the fake vents, they aren't fake, they are used as a place for heat to dissipate. After running the car, the car gets super hot. I can feel the heat emitting from around the front of the car. If I put my hand near that vent, I can feel heat come from that area as well.

As for exhaust, this is the bottom of mine.

Um, let me take a wild guess: you learned of that from the salesman. Right?

I put my hand near the vent and could feel heat. So heat is escaping wherever it can. The car is very hot after running the car hard.

The Ferrari California is shaping up to be one of Ferrari's biggest mistakes.

The car is hideous, its a "Miata Ferrari".

Don't kid yourself about your exhaust, the exhaust pipes are no where near the tips. You can see it from behind the car. I road behind one on the 405 for about 30 minutes in traffic.

Just go and buy the first aftermarket exhaust available, and rid yourself of that hideous exhaust.

At least you got a black one, to hide some of those ugly lines. The white IS-F just look outright nasty.

ngl1145, I like the ISF, its a very respectable attempt from lexus and I can only hope they get better. And yea you just can't win in an M3 forum especially when discussing about the competition.

Anyways I took a test drive of the ISF and love the seats on it. The performance is good and the transmission is pretty impressive. I truly think the ugliness of this car comes from the bumper, it juts out more compared to the regular IS. I think if you just change the front bumper it would look tons better.

Thanks... yeah I'm not trying to convince anyone that the IS-F is better. I actually like all the cars in this category. I've owned a BMW e46 before and loved it and am still a fan of BMW. I used to go up to the Bavarian Autosport show and shine shows they used to have. I just figured I'd give my point of view on things as an owner. There are many things I can only assume as a non-owner of something. M3 is an awesome car and wish I had one too. So anyone who sees my posts.. I'm not starting anything but trying to give input as well as learn about one of the most technologically advanced road cars in the world put out by the M Division. Cheers!

There's no satisfying some people. I think the look is appropriate and intentional. The IS-F is Lexus' way of showing everyone that they can build cars such as these. Too much body cladding and fake vents/pipes? Perhaps .. but no one can deny that its looks are a headturner. That's something that couldn't be said of any other Lexus vehicle.

Here's $5 that says this will be in the new Fast n Furious movie.

Agreed. I am glad Lexus made such a car. Kudo's to them. For me, I like most of the car, its not bad. the exhaust KILLS it for me, but whatever. If you like it, fine..I don't.

I am getting an M because it is more my style, more rounded for my uses, etc. Just a good fit for me. Some think the Lexus works best for them...fine. To each his own you know.

Also, I wouldn't take that $5 bet, even at 50:1 odds. You KNOW the IS-F will be in the the next Fast and Furious!
