No BMW in C&D 10 Best
Is this even possible? No BMW takes a trophy this year? Is this the beginning of the end?
Not that we use these metrics to buy our cars, but I'd expect a 340i or an M2 at least... https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...-today-feature |

Very possible, BMW's are just OK now. I will buy another but i can no longer tell people looking at a benz or audi that the BMW is better.

What will be telling is three years from now how many end up on the Consumer Reports 'Used cars to avoid' list.

If the stupid camaro would have just chilled out with all the performance improvements, we might have gotten on there. all the other german brands made it. but imo the list is pretty predictable and aligns with what every other reviewer has been saying for the past 3 years. i'm moreso surprised that the ats-v/cts-v didn't make it either.

Not that it matters much but the MY that most of us are driving, were pretty much considered "winners" if you will; my model year for example - https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...vs-and-hybrids
We've done good and who knows moving forward. As someone else mentioned, I see Alfa at the top of "used cars to avoid" for quite some time:/

Well, except for the F90 M5 which is very new and have a press embargo until December 5th, no new driver's car from BMW this year, just update's!

this...
I bought an Audi after 21 years and six straight BMWs. I'm looking forward to the g20 iterations, maybe something like an M440i xDrive in three or four years. Who knows I might even go for another M3. But right now I really feel that the F30/32/80/82 range is "me too" at best as a driver's car. But I do think that C&D's Alfa Giulia recommendation is a bit of a reach, even if - as they say - they aren't Consumer Reports.

Right! Sorry but Chevy interiors are garbage. I don't care how much performance you get for the money. You still have to look at all that cheap plastic every time you drive it.

Car and driver's list makes no difference to me if I enjoy my car
I like the fact you can get a good driving car from many makes!

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. The BMW 3-Series has been on top for so long, it is now en vogue to demote it in favor of the young hot new girl in town, the Alpha. Admittedly, everyone has caught up to the 3-series just as the 3-series makes a small step away from a driver's car, to a rider's car. IMHO the 3 series is still a great car, but for the time being the cards are stacked against it while BMW figures out how to still generate sizable revenue while still not alienate a shrinking consumer base: the driving enthusiast.

Remember that car magazine reviews are based on short-term driving experiences with any given make and model. I personally prefer to form my own opinions based on longer-term ownership and could really care less what some Detroit-based car mag thinks about my favorite ride. I'm happy with it and that's all that matters. I'm sure there are owners of other makes who feel the same way.

But even with all that in mind, i doubt that my car is winning any awards, so i'm not surprised that we're not in the top 10. The playing field is fairly flat in this era. Every car company has a 300+ hp commuter that gets 25+mpg. and BMW isn't bringing the heat like they're trying to compete with that. They just got buried in the crowd. Their only saving grace is rwd, 6 speed, and not american or a br-z. |
