Considering a used 335
Hello,
After having driven the 335 for a length amount of time on local streets and freeways I was quite impressed. It would make a great DD if I could figure out the lower lumber back support gripe I have. I would have to drive the E90 to find out if it's same as the E92 problem. I've been reading the posts on this forum about the how the values of the 335i at auctions are dropping, resale value is quite depressing, etc. Question I had was where would I find these great deals on a used 335 I keep seeing people post "you get get the 335 for much cheaper than that xx price right now" Is this through private party, auctions, dealerships? Second question I have about a pre-owned 335 is does the free maintenance service and warranty (power train, electrical etc) transfer over? I might just wait for the 09 hopefully the DCT will come equipped by then on the E90 335 sedan. Cheers |

If you end up in the mid $30s, you are going to be driving a great car for the $$. Warranty and Maintenance transfer. Dealers will have more options once the first 07s start rolling off-lease. Otherwise, look for a Private Party enthusiast who cared for the car and is looking to upgrade or needs a lifestyle change.

I agree with Closer. I personally go to the auctions and I haven't gone to a BMW high end day yet because every time there is one something comes my way, but you can get great deals at auctions if you have a friend with a dealer's license and is willing to bring you in as a guest and bid for you. Otherwise I say try and get lucky with private party and I know it doesn't sound good, but if you find a divorce sale then you can often get it for cheap as well.

used 07 335 coupes going for 36-37K (mileage 10-20K); pretty hefty depreciation man.
no tax in many states for person to person sales. that save alot on 36.5K. 36.5K + $29 OTA license fee used personal well equipped or what 40K+ OTD at the dealer. hmm.

Bought mine for 38500 with only 1500 miles on there. Only 6 months old. Fully loaded except for navi. guy traded in the sedan for a coupe. Still have factory warranty until jan 2011 with option to extend. I got a sick deal... maybe cuz' my brother has bought 4 cars in 3 years from this dealership plus 3 cars from an audi dealership. I've had a couple of problems, but nothing new to anyone else who's had a 335i. very happy with my purchase. If you get it used, make sure they give you new tires...there is some kinda recall on the tires that were sold with the 335i. If it's an early 07 model, make sure the fuel pump was replaced as well. I would make sure you get certified pre-owned warranty if you're gonna pay more than you want . I think it's 6 yrs 75,000 miles if you plan on keeping the car for a while. there is a bit of a reliability issue with the 335i, and no one has had their twin turbo 335's for an extended period of time, so durability might be an issue. So a long warranty will keep you covered with some piece of mind. I know someone on this thread mentioned luxury motors, but I know at least 5 ppl who have bought unknowned damaged cars from them and were ripped off. Apparrently they "fix up" nice cars that were either in accidents or beat on and they claim factory warranties are intact, but i know for a couple ppl they werent. STay away from them. good luck on your search. Personally, i woiuld buy from private seller, or someone on the forums, becuz' BMW enthusiasts like myself take sweet care of their ride! Right ppl!

Personally, it was my experience that shopping for a used BMW is like shopping for a used Honda. The retail price is so high that it's hardly worth it to buy a used one.

You do not have to break in a 335, I repeat, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BREAK IN A 335

I doubt your 36-37k is for CPO. "pretty hefty depreciation man" is the Chicken Little sky is falling mentality on Wall St. we saw 7 years ago...

oh yeah don't forget if you choose any quality aftermarket warranty they'll probably deny you "Bi-TURBO = exotic motor car".
Had the same problem with the Audi S4 2.7TT. Audi CPO or nothing. nobody would touch it with a 10-foot pole. I don't blame them back then the only procedure to change a turbo was engine removal. V-8 alot cheaper to warranty than twin turbo car. Btw V-8 aren't that bad there's something nice about all-motor you damn well know under hood temps are much lower and guarantee it will last alot longer than bi-turbo car. Good luck! ^^ your car sounds pretty sick
