F30 seats

Just getting to know my 340, and I am finding the sports seat very uncomfortable, unfortunately even though I had quite a long test drive I did not notice how bad there are.

I have had a few E92s and found the seats very comfortable even on long journies.
The seats on the F30 seem to be narrower and thinner. Not doing my back any good

A question for the technically minded, would it be possible to fit a seat from an E9X.

I am not worried about the aesthetics, just want to finish a journey pain free

Yes it would be possible, but it would not be straight forward.

You would have to take out the F30 seat and line up the E9X seat.

If the mounts for the seat sit properly on the floor of the car the next step would be to see if you can use the existing holes or if you would have to drill new ones.

If the mounts for the seat do not sit properly you will either have to modify the existing ones or fabricate a subframe.

Have you tried the Non Msport seats for the F30?
If you are hell bent on changing the seats it would be much easier to swap over to one of these. Literally remove the MSport one and bolt in the Non MSport seat.

Or if you want to upgrade you could whack in M3 seats. That would be a new one on here. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think anyone has done that yet.

I would have a really good fiddle about with all the settings, including steering wheel adjustment and side bolsters before doing something so drastic. I know that you have probably done this already, but maybe go back to "square one" and start the whole process again.

I had a similar issue first, but not as bad as you!

I thought the same when I picked up my F30. But got used to them. Give it a while and see if you settle in.

Are the F30 sport seats really worse 'for comfort' than the E9x models?

When I first drove an F30, was after getting out of my E91 with sport seats... this was my comment.

Quote:
The sport seat is a familiar place, in fact the seat feels a bit better to my butt, slightly more refined and comfy, but same support and adjustments for position, as the E90/1.
I've read other reviews where the F3x sport seat is viewed as slightly better than the E9x models.

Just a quick check - you said the seats are too thin. If you mean as in there’s inadequate space between the side bolsters you can increase the gap by using the rocker switch at the seat base.

If not - apologies.

M3 seats have been fitted into F30 but is for a dedicated few as you can only buy the seats in bits and not a complete unit so expensive.

There’s been a few M3/4 interiors up for sale but only as a complete package for about 3k - was tempted myself but couldn’t justify.

I have this problem too, the F30 seats are so uncomfortable, I've got lumbar support, that helps a bit, but I do about 110 miles a day, I get mid-low back pain after being in the car for a bit ? I'll have to fiddle around with the settings to find the best position, but I too find the E9x seats better.

I find them very comfortable, and I do 150-200 miles per day! However the seats in my Wife’s Qashqai kill my lower back on long journeys!

I have had a 3 series for over 10 years though, so maybe I’ve just developed a BMW back?

I find you need to have the seat back up a bit more to support the upper back.

If your upper back isn't supported then eventually your lower back gets strained, and without good lumbar support that then suffers too.

This is where leccy sears come into their own.
Tweak and see, if no better, revert with memory, tweak again, etc.

I've no idea how people cope without them, especially with these BMW ones which are a pita to set consistently after people move them!
